    The policies for inmates were very little and there was noone that could fight for them. Offenders were treated bad and punished in front of crowds to humiliate them. They were kept in isolation thinking that there might be change on prisoners.

    John Howard was a Christian activist who fought for prison reform. Inspecting jails to ensure that prisoners received better treatment (Preceded.com).
  • Penitentiary

    Penitentiary
    Eastern State Penitentiary was built on the outskirts of Philadelphia. Prisoners were in solitary confinement. The solitary confinement and penance would lead to rehabilitation of prisoners (Precedent).
  • Community Based Era

    Community Based Era
    The community base approach would help the inmate and it would help solve the problem of overcrowding prisons. Inmates were part of being places in half-way houses and programs that involved with their jobs (Precedent).
  • Current Corrections

    Current Corrections
    Prisoners are now looked at different and treated different. They are given reform and not mistreated. The prisoners are also given the opportunities to be released on parole to finsih their sentences.

    The “just deserts” doctrine goes back to the way it was. Prisoners need to beheld responsible for their actions (Precedent).
