The system consisted o giving 200 acres of land to the head of each houusehold, plus an additional 50 acres per member of household.     An act of the General Assembly made Georgia the first state to charter a state-sponsered university. This university was the University of Georgia. UGA is important because it is the dominant economic engine of the city of Athens.

    Louisville
    On this day, Georgia's capital was officially moved westward as Georgia expanded westward. Louisville was Georgia's third capital. Loisville was named after a french king who was an ally during the Revolution. It was important because everyone in the state needed access to the capital, and Louisville was near the center of Georgia. It affected Georgia because it moved the capital away from the spreading disease of Malaria.

    The cotton gin was a machine created by Eli Whitney that separated seeds from cotton. This was important because it increased cotton production. Georgia was impacted by an increase in slavery to pick the cotton and the georgian economy was boosted due to the increase in production.

    Yazoo Land Fraud
    The Yazoo Land Fraud was when land speculation companies bribed members of the General Assembly to pass a law that let the companies buy 35 million acres of land near the Yaxoo river. When citizens found out, they were furious. Lawmakers repealed the act and burned the law. This event was important because it destabilized the relationtionship between the US and Georgia. Georgia was greatly affected by the land loss suffered after the Yazoo Land Fraud.

    Land Lottery Act Signed
    After the Yazoo territory was lost, Georgia couldn't afford to give out free land like it used to under the Headwright system. Georgia adopted Land Lottery Act where they distributed land at little to no cost. The lots that could be won were much smaller than the Headwright system. It was important because it attracted new settlers interested in winning. It affected Georgia because it formed conflicts between the Cherokee and Creek Indians and Georgia.
  • Railroads

    The Gerogia Railroad Company was chartered on this day to bulid a railroad from Athens to Augusta. As cotton production increased, Gerorgia needed a more cost effective mode of tranportation. Georgia's General Assembly decided that the state of Gerogia should become a partener in railroad building. The event is important because products could be moved faster so it boosted Gerogia's economy. This event affected Georgia's because it helped Georgia's economy and economic power grow.
