In 1862 right after the Civil War, most of the confederate soldiers were dead and so were the owners of plantations so they had no where to go, they were hungry, so Abraham Lincoln made the Emancipation Proclamation -

They wanted to get rid of the Emancipation Proclamation, so instead of removing it they made the Black Codes. It was helped to control freed African Americans. Made it illeagel for African Americans to own farms or rent farms. They took advantage of African Americans, If they did not have jobs, they were either fined or put in jail. -
