Edmund Andros Arrives

Amistad Affair
Portuguese slave hunters abducted a large group of Africans. This abduction violated all of the treaties then in existence. The Africans went on trial for murder for a boat that was seized when they were abducted. The charges were later dismissed.The affair went from 1839-1841 -

Flooding
Flooding caused major damage in Connecticut River Valley. An estimated $20 million in current currency was in damages. The Connecticut River rose up to 38 feet. -
Hurricane and Flood
They had little warning to the officially unnamed hurricane. Due to little warning, there were around 600 dead and over 700 injured. 5,000 buildings and 25,000 homes damaged. This hurricane is known as the Great New England Hurricane. -
