SIX DAY WAR
Eygpt demanded that the UN remove its troops from Gaza and the Sinai Penninsula, and they did so. Ater the UN removed the troops, Eygptian troops moved in and closed off the route Israel used to the Red Sea. In response Israel launched airstrikes against Eygpt, destroying most of their planes on the ground. -
YOM KIPPUR WAR
After the six day war Israel took control of a lot of land ocuppied by a Palestinian majority. As time passed the Palestinians wanted to take their land back. In 1973, Eygpt and Syria launched attacks on Israel during the jewish celebration, that is why it is called the 'yom kippur war'. At first, the Arabs made more progress in the war but, then the U.S. stepped in, and fought to defend the Israeli. -
CAMP DAVID ACCORDS
Until the late 1970s the Arab nations did not recognise Israel's right to exist. Then in 1977 the Eygptian president stated that he wanted peace between Eygpt and Israel. Then, in 1978, the U.S. President Jimmy Carter invited both the Eygptian president and the Israeli Prime Minister to his presidential retreat, where they discussed and made their peace treaty. This peace treat ended 30 years of hostility. -
INTIFADA
Although the Eygptian and Israeli leaders had reached peace the people couldnt seem to find peace and conflict began to rise. Many streetfights broke out and the Israeli responded with police and strong military, but thge fighting continued until the early 1990s. -
SECOND INTIFADA
Many people tried to destroy peace process. The militant group Hamas, launched suicide bombings in Israel. Then in 1995 an Israeli religious leader was assasinated and eventually the relationship between the Palestinian and Israeli leaders soured.
