  • Political Deadlock

    •Political Deadlock was about difficulty passing the law
    • John A. Macdonald and George Brown were enemies which made the assembly even more worst
    • an Intercolonial railway was needed to increase trades and improve transportation
  • Railway Building

    •In the decade, some colonies had their own railway like New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
    • They wanted better intercolonial trains to maneuver armies faster (in case there was a conflict) or to improve better trade
    • however BNA location trains construction to halt
  • The Quebec Conferenence

    • the Quebec Conference had a something known as 72 resolutions supported the Union’s government
    • Newfoundland had not attended the Conference because they believed they weren’t interested/ included
    • United Province of North American nation would be split from the center between Ontario and Quebec
  • Charlottetown Conference

    • The charlottetown Conference was created to have delegates form a United Province Of Canada
    • They mentioned Maritime union
    • They wanted to form four colonies and 3 from the Atlantic referred to as nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Edward Island
  • Cancelling the Reciprocity Treaty ( no exact date)

    • In 1865, the Reciprocity written agreement was cancelled and ended free trade between British North America and the United States
    • The written agreement was designed for free trade between BNA and U.S. while not paying high tariffs on product
    • People from BNA needed to join along so that they might continue trade
  • London Conference

    • The London Conference was about delegates presenting the 72 resolutions to the British
    • It was the last conference to make the Dominion of Canada on july first, 1867
    •They would before long build an intercolonial railway
  • John A. MacDonald

    •brought in British Columbia in to Confederation after promising a transcontinental railroad
    •believed in separate schools they did not have to be Catholic or Protestant
    •went to England and argued for the passing of the British North America Act of 1867
  • Manifest Destiny (no exact date)

    • In the decade, there was a warfare between the northern and southern states of America
    • BNA were supporting the southern states and the northern were believing in Manifest Destiny
    • once the warfare led to 1865, the BNA thought that the Americans would take over the western side of BNA since the Americans had already taken lands from Spain, Mexico or France
  • Dominion Of Canada

    • On july first, 1867, nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the United Province of canada country|North American nation} had joined along to make the Dominion Of Canada
    • They made a system of federalism which means two levels of government: Provincial and Federal
    • British North American act was the first ever Canadian Constitution
