1992 - The first smartphone was invented
The Company IBM had announced the new smartphone. It was called the Simon Personal Communicator or SPC for short. This was the first phone to use a touch screen and it was able to send and receive faxes and emails. 1992 was when it was announced but it could not be bought until 1994. -
1992 - The first text was sent
Smartphones at the time did not have a keyboard. To make the first text a previous developer at Sema Group Telecoms had to write out the text on his computer and then send it to a colleges phone. It successfully went through on December 3, 1992. The text said "Merry Christmas." -
1993 - Introduction of the World Wide Web
The invention of the World Wide Web was Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau. This invention made it simple for anyone to use the internet. They could easily find what they wanted with a quick search. All they had to do was open a browser and put in the URL and hit search. -
1997 - The mp3 player was invented
Karlheinz Brandonburg invented the mp3 player. This could play encoded music files, basically it could play cd's. These could either be home made cd's or ones people could buy. This was when it was invented in the US. There was also one that was made from South Korea company called SaeHan Information System. -
1999 - Emojis were created
Emojis were first created by a Japanese artist Shigetaka Kurita. The first ever emoji was a heart that was sent to a pager. These were the first digital emojis rather than the simple :) or <3.
