Slide Rule invented
William Oughtred invents the Slide Rule. This first one was circular. The slide rule is a mechanical analog computer this was made not too long before the calculating clock. -
Calculating Clock invented
Wilhelm Schickard designs the first known mechanical calculator, the "Calculating Clock" to multiply large numbers. This is important becuase it helped set the tone running for other inventors to invent calculating and adding machines. -
Automated Loom invented
Joseph- Marie Jacquard invents an automated loom which uses punched cards to reproduce complex patterns. This is a very important invention in computer history because it was one of the machines made in the industrial revolution and it helped to make things faster. -
First Typewriter is patented
The first typewriter is patented by William Austin Burt. It's slow and clumsy, but it is the first writing machine. The first typewriter is very important because it was the building blocks of how we started inventing computers and we used it to proccess and record information and data. -
First programer
Ada, Countess of Lovelace becomes the worlds first programmer.This is a big step in computer history becuase until now no one had a use to the bianary code. The programmer job became very important after that and now there are thousands of jobs based off of it. -
Magnetic Recording invented
Magnetic recording is a term from engineering referring to the storage of data on a magnetized medium. This is a very important because before then you could only record things on paper, but when it was invented it opened a whole new world of different opperotunities for the world to store and manage data. -
Electronic Typewriter introduced
IMB introduces the electronic typewriter. The electronic typewriter is important on this timeline becuase it shows the leap that was made from when the typewriter was first invented, and how they changed it to fit more of the peoples needs. -
Magnetic Memory developed
Jay Forester develops magnetic memory at M.I.T. Magnetic memory is also a very important way for people to store things, this is another example of someone useing the idea of something else being invented and coming up with a way to make it work better and be more easy to use. -
Hard Drive invented
IMB builds the first hard drive. It contains fifty 24 inch disks, has a capacity of 5 MB and costs over $1,000,000 US dollars. I feel like it was important to include this event becuase it shows how much money this object costed but as time goes by and when loads of other things are being invented the value price of the object will drop. -
Portable Computer is A Success
The first successful portable computer, the Osborne 1. is introduced. This is important becuase now in our world almost everyone owns or has seen a laptop and it shows that the ideas that people have can be built upon others and as time goes on the technology gets better.
