    AOL instant messenger was created by AOL and was released in May of 1997. It was the leading messaging application in the decade and connected people all around the world with the internet. It had a huge following and made it easier to digitally connect with anyone, at any time over the internet.
  • Bluetooth

    Bluetooth
    Bluetooth was first launched by Ericsson, IBM, Nokia and Toshiba. It was created in early 1998 but was not widespread from being so expensive until the 2000's. Bluetooth is widely used in almost any tech product we use now. It allows most of our devices to communicate with each other wirelessly.

    USB Flash Drives
    Trek Technology was the first company to release a commercial version of a USB flash drive in 2000. These were able to carry a significant amount more amount of data than floppy drives. People now had access to big amounts of portable digital storage.
  • ipod

    The first iPod was released October 23, 2001 by Apple. People were now able to carry around a significant digital copy of their music. It was much more convenient than carrying around a Walkman or a CD player. It provided a much easier access to media on the go.
  • Myspace

    Myspace
    Myspace was founded by Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe and was launched on August 1st, 2003. It was the first big social networking site and had a huge role in the influence of technology and growth of many companies. Just like Facebook today it allowed people to share and communicate with people all over the world.
