  • Difference engine was invented Charles Babbage in 1822

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology develops the Whirlwind Machine

    MIT developed the first computer to ever incorporate the technology RAM. It is called the Whirlwind machine and was developed in 1955. It was the first computer with random access memory that utilized magnets, and it had a graphics display that updated real-time.
  • The revolutionary OS: UNIX developed by Ken Thompson and others

    Unix is a portable-by-disk, multitasking and multiuser operating system developed in 1969 by a small group at AT&T (Bell Labs). Unix was used in PCs, phones, servers, terminals and software for military vehicles. Unix was revolutionary for the development of the Internet, however, Unix was rare to find for the general public at the time, which lead to the formation of GNU, a project dedicated to creating a unix-like OS that is completely free and accessible to the public.
