    The Telex messaging network comes out of the early period of Germany's Third Reich. The Telex began as a way to distribute messages to the military, soon they became a worldwide network of both official and commercial messages.

    Belgian Paul Otlet wants to collect, organize, and share all the world's knowledge. He had co-created a massive "search engine" starting in the 1900s. The Mundaneum now combines card catalogs, with 16 million entries, photos, documents, microfilm and more.

    The British Bombe was created to send messages to the military during World War II. It was created by two computer pioneers Alan Turing and Harold Keen. They worked for the British Tabulating Machine Company.

    The Festival of Britain was made as a nationwide festival to display all of Britain's arts. Technology, culture and the destruction of World War II. John Bennett designed a machine to play NIM. Which was a simple game where players take turns removing in piles, Aiming to be the last person that removes a match.

    Phone companies develop digital transmission systems for internal uses. Mostly used to put more calls on each mainline. By this year, 1958, this produced the T1, still used in North America.

    While studying languages in Moscow, C.A.R. Hoarse comes up with Quicksort, an algorithm that would become one of the most used in the world. Later, he went back to work for the British computer company Elliott Brothers. That is where he designed the first commercial Algol 60 compiler.

    It is a modification of DEC's earlier LINCtape. The 3/4 inch tape was thought to be an improvement over the paper tape. It was laminated and the magnetic part was sandwiched in between two parts of mylar.

    Apple introduces their very first ultra notebook. A light, thin laptop with a high-capacity battery. It incorporated many of the technologies that had been associated with Apple's MacBook.
