  • Second Morrill Act

    The Second Morrill Act expanded to minorities populations to be admitted to land grant colleges; and this act supported the absence of federal funds to the colleges that did not admit students based on race (unless state had separate opportunities for minorities i.e. a separate institution (Drury, 2003).     3 College Advisors were embedded fulltime in 3 of the feeder High Schools in South Phoenix/Laveen - (Betty Fairfax, Cesar Chavez, South Mountain). They serve to be a Point of Contact for students, high school staff to have SMCC accessible for One-Stop Enrollment, FA help, College Support, and another added feature to be part of the essential services within the Counseling department of each other the PXU schools.
