Communists Seize Control of China
The CPC assumed full control of mainland China in 1949. The KMT retreated to the island of Taiwan. -
The Five Year Plan
After WWII, China realized they needed to industrialize. In late 1949, China signed a treaty with Russia stating that Russia will give China $300 million over a 5 year period. Russia also sent 10,000 engineers to help modernize China. -
