Braille
Braille was invented by Louis Braille. It was based on night writing a form of communication used by soldiers. It was invented in France. It is considered the first binary writing. -
Morse Code
Morse code was developed to convert telegraph messages into text. Skilled operators could read at 40 wpm. -
Pony Express
The Pony Express was a mail service designed to bring letters and small packages west across the plaines, over the mountains to California. It used a series of relay stations to transport messages across the country which was more efficient then traditional stagecoaches. -
Hansen writing ball
Rev. Rasmus Malling-Hansen from denmark invented it and it was commerical succesful in europe but never was a wide spread success. -
Sholes and Glideon type writer
invented by americans Christopher Latham Sholes, Carlos Glidden and Samuel W. Soule in 1868. The patent was sold to E. Remington and Sons and was first produced in 1873. This was the first Typewriter to be commercially successful and featured a QWERTY keyboard. -
First telephone call
Alexander Graham Bell First patented, made the first call, and invented the first practical telephone. The first Sentance was "Watson, come here! I want to see you!" -
Fountain Pen
Lewis Waterman invented the first practical fountain pen. Before the fountain pen people had to carry around their own ink and quill. -
Ball point pen
It was an improvement to the fountain pen. Many improvements were made to the ink and ball over the years. The ball point pen has a rolling ball at the tip which dispenses ink. It has been called the invention that changed the way we write. -
Mechanical pencil
Tokuji Hayakawa made improvements to patents made the previous century, it wasnt successfull at first for being too different from traditional pencils. -
Car phone
In the 1980s the car phone was much more popular then the cell phone which was very heavy and expensive. The car phone seen widespread use until the early 90s when cell phones became more practical. -
Modern Fax machine
This was the first telephone based fax, that was user friendly and available to the public. Took about 6 minutes to transfer a letter sized document. Companys around the world started using fax machines in the 70s. -
First Email
The first email was sent by Ray Tomlinson he was working on a system called TENEX and he started improving the single computer mailing system. The first email was sent between two computers sitting next to eachother, the message was forgettable but was probably qwertyuiop. -
AOL instant messenger
AOL allowed people to communicate instantly over the internet. It was hugely popular and pioneered the instant message we know today. -
Skype
Skype was founded by Janus Friis i and niklas Zennstrom in 2003. It allowed users to communicate using a microphone, webcam, or instant messenger. With skype you can call other skype users, and even land lines and mobile phones. Skype now has over 50 million active users and the number keeps increasing. -
youtube
youtube was invented by a group of former Pay Pal employees Steven Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. They found that videos couldnt easily be found and shared on the internet so they came up with youtube as the solution. Since its launch it has been a huge part of pop culture. Some countires have since banned the website for offensive content.
