    These Africans were not going to the Americas as slaves, but seeking financial opportunity, like the Europeans they traveled with were. However these could only be counted in the hundred thousands, as the larger populations came later.

They were taken as slaves and those who weren't were leaving in hopes of economic stability and to escape the harassment they experienced in America.

    The Spanish and Portuguese were very familiar with slavery. By the end of the 16th century they had a large amount of slaves from North and West Africa. Most of them were bought. But we see that a great percentage of those slaves were also Native Americans.
