Columbus Lands in the Americas
Spain sent christopher columbus to set sail looking for a westward sea route to china with three small ships. The Santa María, the Pinta, and the Niña. All three ships landed in south America for the first two voyages, but on his 3rd small voyage back over looking for a route to India he came across north America. -
Jamestown
The first permanent English settlement in North America. Dispatched from England by the London Company, the colonists had sailed across the Atlantic aboard the Susan Constant,Godspeed, and Discovery. Roughly 3 years after establishment tobacco became the main cash crop of Jamestown. Within 10 years after that the town expanded to the East where it became the capital of Virginia until 1699. -
Pilgrims land
Around 100 plus people from ENgland sailed to the new world seek religious freedom from king James 1. The pilgrims first landed in present day massachusetts. They sent out a search party that landed in plymouth harbor during late december. This spot became the first permanent settlement by Europeans in the new world. -
Invention of the steam engine
A machine that uses steam as its working fluid to make a machine operate. This miraculous invention of the time was created by Thomas Savery and helped the speed in the farming process. This technology also helped the westward expansion and efficiency of travel via land and sea with steam engine trains and and steam boats that helped lead this country into a new era. -

French/Indian war
This started when the French were upset with the colonists ruining their business with the Indians. The French and the Colonists got in a war with each other involving backup reinforcements from overseas. The indians tribes sided with the Colonists and French in a battle that the Colonists won in the end and gained the land from the French. They gave this land to the Indians but decided they wanted the land and kept pushing the Indians west while the colonists expanded west. -

Lexington and concord
The lexington and concord kicked off the american revolution. The British marched over to Concord to seize an arm cache. Paul Revere and other men made sure to get the word out and notify the town and nearby ones to help rebel against the British. This fight took place in Lexington where the British were held back and forced to retreat. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration summarized the colonists’ motivations for seeking independence from Parliament. The Americans saw a pattern of increasing oppression and corruption from Parliament which made them consider the idea of becoming fully independent. The declaration was signed by 56 delegates from 13 colonies to become one independent nation against the British empire. -

Constitution Convention
This was a gathering for the purpose of ratifying a constitution. The constitution was created to make a better checks and balances within the government. Making it so that all three branches couldn’t go above the heads of one of the other branches. -

Jefferson Presidency
Jefferson was known as the author of the Declaration of Independence and the third U.S. president. He Became president after John Adams. He also authorized the Lewis and Clark expedition to explore the Louisiana Territory and approved the Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves. -
Louisiana purchase
The Louisiana purchase was a battle for a huge chunk of land in the new world. Roughly 827,000 square miles of land to be precise. At the end of the french Indian war the US bought out the Louisiana purchase in order to gain new Orleans that they didn’t think they could get just by itself -
Missouri compromise
In late 1819 the Missouri compromise was a compromise that would help end rivalries between the north (anti-slavery) and south (slavery). Through adding missouri in between the two as a slave state. Splitting the nation into 22 states, 11 free and 11 enslaved. -

Jackson's presidency
Andrew Jackson completely paid off all of our national debt in 1835. He also signed the Indian Removal Act in 1830 which relocated all of the native americans in North America westward. -
Indian Removal Act
Signed by president andrew Jackson. This amendment relocated all of the Native Americans westward to make more room for the english men. The indians tried to revolt and maintain their land but their attempts were unsuccessful. The indians were forcefully removed from their land and forced to walk west on life taking journeys such as the trail of tears. -
Creating electricity with a generator
Scientist Michael Faraday discovered that a little generator/motor could turn energy into electricity that could be used to power other devices. As time continued the testing of electricity to see what it could do increased and became unbelievably useful and efficient. They could use it for lights, radios, refrigerators, cars, and way more. -
Nat Turners Revolt
Nat Turner Went around freeing black people and supplying them with weapons. They went from house to house freeing people left and right and killed around 50-60 white men. The rebellion was eventually stopped and in retaliation the white men killed two times the amount of people the rebellions killed but they were all black. The rebellion scared people to see just what they were capable of and how far it had spread. -
Story 1. Requesting for woman teaching rights
Back in the 1800s education was designed for only men in america and a lot of women were sick of it. Especially a Young teacher named Susan B. Anthony who was so sick of the standard gender segregation that she asked for equal pay for women teachers. Shortly after you saw the gap between men and women education and jobs start to close in a bit. -
Story 2. seneca falls convention
In New York, the meeting launched the women’s suffrage movement which ensured the establishment of the woman's right to vote several decade later. The speech was held in front of roughly 300 woman and was about fighting for the social, civil and religious rights of women. After the convention everyone left with 100 people signing the declaration of sentiment. -
Story 3. First National Woman's Rights Convention
The first NWR convention was held in Worcester, Massachusetts. Over 900 woman attended this two day meeting with multiple speakers and advocates for women's suffrage such as Sojourner Truth. Many reporters came and wrote about this event but many didn’t take it seriously, however some did like Horace Greeley and the word was spread about The Enfranchisement of Women (Harriet Martineau) -

Dred Scott V. Sandford
1856, Reargued December 15–18, 1856, Decided March 6, 1857. A man named Dred Scott was a slave would often travel with his master a lot. Eventually him and his master traveled into a free state with him. Dred Scott presumed that since they were in a free state he should be allowed to be free but his master didn’t think so. So he brought the case to court where the judges ruled against Mr.Scott. They decided he wasn't free since he was just visiting for work and not actually from that state. -

Lincoln Presidency
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the united states up until he was assassinated in 1865. He lead us through the civil war one of the bloodiest battles and along the way he managed to preserve the union, abolish slavery, and strengthen the federal government. -
Attack on Fort Sumter
The attack on fort sumter is best know as the start of the Civil war. When the confederacy layed down gun fire on this base and against the United States Army. Ultimately the attack and surrender of the United States Army led to the start of the American Civil War. Luckily there were 0 casualties that occured from this battle. -
Emancipation Proclamation
After 3 long bloody years of war Abraham Lincoln issued the proclamation of emancipation. Setting all slaves in confederate states free. The thought of this gave hope and imagination to a peaceful and whole world to millions of people. Of course the military still needed to win the war, but now it had become a war for freedom. -
Rise of KKK
This organization now classified as a terrorist group in modern day terms first started off as a secret masked organization after the civil war. This group would use their power to lynch black people and show them that they didn’t belong here, to show them the segregation, and that they were different. The group would also use their power to force people into joining the group or against anyone that tried to challenge them. -
Thirteenth amendment ratified
The thirteenth amendment abolished slavery in the united states. Permanently. But just because it was abolished didn’t mean people couldn't dislike colored people. Colored people were treated with utmost disrespect and harmed daily. There were always ways to get around the law. For example there were literacy tests that were skewed to be harder for colored people than white so that they couldn't vote. -
Surrender at Appomattox
One of the last battle of the civil war, the surrender at appomattox by general Robert E. Lee put an end to this 4 year war. Knowing that defeat was around the corner with cut off supplies and diminishing troops general lee went and surrendered to general grant despite rather facing 1000 deaths. -
Lincoln Assassinated
The assassination of president lincoln was by John Wilkes Booth in the intent to re spark that fire in the confederates eyes. Unfortunately the plan to assassinate other people did not go to plan. Booth shot lincoln and made a dramatic escape, followed by a 12 day manhunt for booth the ended up getting him hung in the end and ultimately ending with the confederates losing the war. -
Story 4. National Woman Suffrage Association founded
The NWSA was created in response to the AERA (american equal rights association) over if woman should support the 15th amendment. The leaders of the group Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth C. Stanton opposed the 15th amendment unless it included women's right to vote. Men were also allowed to join this association but the would be under women's leadership. -
Story 5. Minor v. Happersett
Women attempted to use the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause to justify voting and the practice of law. Unfortunately the 14th amendment protected rights that were not the right to vote and Minor was still unable to vote until the 19th amendment came out and over rule this case. -
Yellowstone national park established
Yellowstone is located in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. It’s The first national park in the US and widely known as the first national park in the world. This park was put aside by Ulysses S. Grant to protect the environment and animals in it along with the history of nature in that region. -
The telegraph is created
The first Bi-directional transmission was received by Bell and Watson. From that moment life as we knew it would change forever with the development of the first practical telephone. Making it simpler for people to get hold of each other and communicate over long distances more efficiently. -
Story 6. The "Anthony Amendment"
In Anthony's home town she she was arrested for voting and declined to pay the fine. She did so to extend the vote to women, which was introduced for the first time in the United States Congress. This was later passed as the 19th amendment. -
Chinese Exclusion act.
This act prohibited chinese people from entering the united states at all. It was the first law to prohibit any specific ethnicity group of any kind to be able to come into the USA. The law was to be applied for 10 years but was expanded for another 10 years. Once 1902 had reached the decided to make this law permanent until 1943 when they allowed 100 ish Chinese immigrants back in every year. -
Sherman Antitrust Act
Shermans antitrust act was his first federal act to out law practices of monopolistic company practices. The law tries to prevent fake raising of prices by restriction of trade or supply. Over time courts had built up laws under the Sherman act to punish certain types of monopolies and the consequences that went with them. -
Story 7. Referendum
Colorado passed a referendum an amendment to their state constitution, giving women the right to vote. Colorado was the first to amend its constitution to grant women suffrage. -
Invention of the radio
Guglielmo Marconi was first credited with creating the radio. Although Wireless communication had been a theory for many years before the radio was created and was even discovered accidentally before that but was passed off as electromagnetic induction. At first after the discovery of the radio was used over short distance for little things and tests but as time went by they tested the limits and expanded the distance. Eventually leading us to world renown invention that entertained the nation. -
Plessy V. Ferguson
The “separate but equal” case. After the reconstruction era the Plessy case helped re-insure the the racial segregation that’s been going on. They followed the constitution to the point where it gave the colored people facilities that were equal in quality. They may of had to uphold equal segregation establishments but it didn’t mean they couldn’t shun them all out and over enforce the law of them. -

Conflict started between spain and the united states after the USS Maine was exploded in a cuban harbor. The americans intervened with the cuban war of independence where they went and helped end cuban revolts that had been going on for a while. The spanish were mad that the US was helping the cubans. The US started making a blockade on cuban territory which started the Spanish American war. -

Theodore lead the country with a fiery passion he worked toward progressive reforms and a strong foreign policy. During the spanish american war Theodore was a lieutenant of the rough riders, which made him a hero to the US. He was also a trust buster, panama canal creator, and square deal maker. -

Panama Canal
A waterway that connects the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean, making it easier for people to travel long distance through that direction. France started working on the panama canal but had to stop because of engineering problems and high mortality rates from the workers. The US picked up the work after france had to take a break. Later on France and Columbia jumped in to help finish making the canal. -
Triangle shirtwaist factory
One of the deadliest disasters in New York city let alone US history. 146 people died in that fire either from the fire itself, the smoke, or jumping and falling to their deaths. Ages of the dead go from 14-43 years old and consisting primarily of jewish and italian immigrants. -
Story 8. Women's suffrage parade in New York
The women's suffrage parade of 1912 was a small parade of about 3oo people. A parade was a new and bold tactic for women suffragists at the time. It allowed women to unit from different economic or social backgrounds on a whole new level. It also allowed them to spread their word easily and get it out on in the media whether it was positive or negative. -

Wilson's Presidency
Wilson came up with a bunch of acts for people to follow during his first term. During his second term the US joined in on WW1 due to unrestricted submarine warfare from the Germans. Wilson came up with a 14 point plan to prevent a world war from ever happening again but no one listened because his domestic policy was awful and everyone only wanted to follow bit of his plan. Later people realized how good of a plan it was and started to use it. -
WW1 Begins
The war started when a serbian nationalist by the name of Gavrilo Princip assassinated the Austro-Hungarian heir Archduke Franz Ferdinand. This assassination caused these countries to declare war on each other.Ultimately making the countries around them and their allies to take sides in an intense world war. -
Story 9. Women's suffrage march in New York,
In Newy York over 25,000 woman marched up 5th avenue to advocate for women’s suffrage. This brought the idea of woman actually getting to have atake in real jobs that men do every day. Thus bringing chaos to everyone over the thought of a woman ran world. -

The great migration
African Americans started moving up North and to the East and West to escape social conditions miss treatment and because of economic booms in the north. In the north everything was economically booming with more jobs and money being handed out it gave more opportunities to people. Along with slightly better social conditions it really felt like moving up north would lead to more success for a better life. -
Story 10. Picketing for suffrage
1000s of Woman came to the white house and protested outside for the Anthony amendment. Many were arrested and the woman were growing restless. After many months the president finally sided with the woman and agreed to support them. Leading to the signing of the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote in Aug. 18, 1920. -
Wilson's 14 points
Wilson's 14 point plan was a revolutionary idea to prevent further wars from starting up. Unfortunately the other countries didn’t agree with all of his ideas that wilson presented such as the points to forgive germany and not punish them as badly. Not using all of Wilson's points eventually led to a second world war. -
World War 1 Ends
Russia replaces their tsar with the provisional government. Then Russia signed a treaty ending their involvement in the war. The other countries banned together and drove the Germans back even further. The Germans were pinned and the troops no longer wanted to fight and Germany surrendered. Germany was punished and a league of nations was formed.The idea was to prevent a second war as bad as the first from happening again but they weren't too successful. -
Eighteenth amendment
This amendment banned the production, transport, and sale liquor in the US. Many people were displeased with this amendment and didn’t follow the law. This actually increased crime because more gangs would produce, transport, and sell alcohol as their business and if discovered they and loopholes around the system. -

The treaty of versailles was an important treaty because it ended the war between germany and the allied. One huge part of the treaty was the war guilt clause that required Germany to dismantle their harmy and pay back all of the damage done. Some thought it was a fare idea but others thought they were being too lenient on Germany for the crimes that they had committed were too ruthless to be dealt with how they dealt with it. -

Prohibition is the banning of alcohol consumption and sales of any kind. Alcohol was huge and when the law legalized banning alcohol the public went crazy. No one really followed the law and legalizing prohibition actually increased production for gangs because they could sell alcohol to people on the down low. -

The nineteenth amendment granted women the right vote. It took decades of protesting and women's suffrage to get the right to vote. But nonetheless they eventually got it. -

A socialist named gitlow was arrested underneath the 14th amendment which did not uphold the 1st amendment off freedom of speech. This gave a whole new perspective to the law and the impacts that everything has on each other. -
Scopes Trial
A high school teacher named John T. Scopes was accused of violating the tennessee butler act. Which didn’t allow people to teach human evolution. They believed in the gospel in tennessee and god so much that they didn’t want to get caught up in science and what the real reason for humans evolution was. So when they found out about Scopes they basically took his life from him so he brought it to court. -
Stock Market Crash
The stock market crash happened due to an increasing raising stock, excessive economic optimism, and over use of buying on the margin debt. All of these kept adding up until eventually no one could save the stock market from collapse which left millions of people bankrupt. -

The election occurred right after the great depression had begun. Herbert Hoover was defeated in a landslide leaving roosevelt in charge. Roosevelt was able to win everyone over by introducing his promise of the New Deal and how it would help get everyone out of this slump. -

The Civilian Conservation Corps was a publics work relief that allowed people to go out and help repair our environment. Men would sign up by the 10,000s to go out in our nation and help repair our land for 6 months because we had been treating extremely poorly and the dust bowl was a huge wake up call. Every man would get paid a dollar a day, checks every 30 days. $25 would go home to your family and $5 would be yours to keep. -
Social Security Act
The social Security Act created a system of old-age benefits for workers, benefits for victims of industrial accidents, unemployment insurance, aid for dependent mothers and children, the blind, and the physically handicapped. As a way to honor the old and help those who need the it. -
FDR Court Packing Scandal
FDR’s court packing scandal was to replace the judges in the court with judges that FDR thinks would help support him. When FDR created the new deal plans the courts sought out to show that some of them were unconstitutional and just simply cannot be done. So FDR sought out to create a plan that would allow his New Deals to be passed.
