    1616-Dirk Hartog officially discovered the west coast of Australia.He nailed a pewter plate with the name of his ship
    Eendracht .The Dutch traders had begun to sail east from the Cape of Good Hope before going north to the islands of South East Asia.Quite often they were blown off course and landed in the west and southern coasts of Australia.Perspective-Dirk Hartog- Hmm.. beautiful place, dry and dusty but good. I have a pewter plate with the name of my ship on it. I guess I will nail it down.

  • Willem Dampier

    1688- Willem Dampier stopped at King Sound in Western Australia at the foot of the Kimberley Mountain Range.He was the first Englishman to take a step on Australian Soil and the first to see a Kangaroo. He spent three months examining the Countryside and was not impressed about what he saw. The land was very dry and sandy,the water was very hard to find and there were no trees or fruit.

    1768-Captain James Cook sailed in the Endeavour from Plymouth in 1768. On the ship there was a group of Naturalists and artists directed by Joseph Banks.He also took two Greyhounds
  • Endeavour left NZ

    1770-The Endeavour left New Zealand on March 31, 1770. The water was warm and many Dolphins jumped around the ship. Albatrosses flew over the ship and Cook sailed westward.
  • Cook arrived at Botany Bay

    1770-Cook arrived at(Botany Bay).He called it Botany Bay because of the many plants his botanists collected. Cook saw another cove a few miles north and named it Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour).Perspective-Captain Cook- So we have arrived at a bay and I think I might call it Botany Bay because of the plants that my Botanists have collected. I have now spotted another cove further north and maybe I should name that Port Jackson, I do think thats a suitable name.

    1788-First Fleet- The Government had to move convicts who had either stolen things onto ships and take them to Sydney Cove because America became independent, Australia had good trade and the jails were full because people were poor and they would steal things. 11 Ships travelled to Sydney Cove, filled with convicts, navy and supplies.
    Perspective-Convicts- I got shoved into jail for such a small crime and the jails are so full that I have no where to move, I miss my family very badly.
  • Federation

    Federation-1899-The premiers met up to find ways of meeting the bothers of those three colonies. Among the decisions made was a new decision about a new capital city to be established by Sydney and Melbourne, they both wanted the nation’s capital. Western Australia didn’t believe federation was a good thing for them. Perspective-Western Australia-Why do Sydney and Melbourne want to be a capital? We all think Federation is not a great thing and we don’t want to be apart of them.
  • Commonwealth of Australia-1901

    1901- In 1901 The Commonwealth of Australia became a reality. All of the colonies became states. The Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act declared that on 1st of January 1901, the colonies of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania would be known has the ‘Commonwealth Of Australia’.

    More than 416 000 Australians signed up to fight for the ‘ Mother Country’ which was what Britain was called back and. Australians believed that it was their responsibility to help defend the British Empire. They also believed that they were fighting to make the a world a safer place.Perspective-Australian Soldier- All my friends are signing up to serve in the war but I don’t think I should, maybe I should just go, we do need to def

    -Britain brought fish & chips to Australia
    -Australia and Britain play against each other in the Ashes Cricket
    -Australia and Britain both celebrate the Queen's Birthday
    -When you turn 100, you get a letter from the Queen from Britain
