    Charter of 1732
    King George II signs charter establishing colony of Georgia. Later during the year, James Oglethorpe and 114 colonists departed on board the Anne.

    James Oglethorpe and 114 settlers on the ship Anne first arrived in Charles Town and then sailed over to Port Royal. They sailed south and were able to get permission there from Tomochichi to settle in Yamacraw Bluff.
  • Yamacraw Bluff

    The colonists finally arrive at Yamacraw Bluff and name Georgia's first settlement Savannah for the nearby river.
  • Oglethorpe returns to England with Tomochichi

    Oglethorpe asks the Parliament for government funding to build forts along Georgia's southern border.
  • Salzburgers

    German-speaking settlers from Salzburg arrived in Savannah. The Salzburg's had been persecuted because of their religious beliefs.
  • War of Jenkins Ear

    This was a conflict between the Spanish and British lasting from 1739-1748
  • Invasion 1

    Oglethorpe led an invasion south into Florida and captured Fort Diego but lost at Fort Mose.
  • Battle of Bloody marsh

    Battle of Bloody marsh
    Several thousand Spanish soldiers push Georgia defenders to Fort Frederica, but when the Spanish approached within a mile of Fort Frederica, Oglethorpe's patrol opened fire. Then, Oglethorpe did a second surprise attack shortly after and won.
  • Oglethorpe Leaves

    Oglethrope returns to England and never sets foot again on Georgia soil.
  • Royal Colony

    Georgia became a royal colony under direct control of the British Government.

  • French and Indian War

    Great Britain and France went to war over their world empires with war beginning in north America. Many Indians fought with the French.

    John Reynolds

    John Reynolds became the first royal governor. However, he was disliked by many.

    Henry Ellis

    Henry Ellis became the second royal governor. He left because of the heat.

    James Wright

    James Wright was the final royal governor and is also said to be the best of the three.
  • Treaty of Paris of 1763

    After France and Spain surrendered, this treaty forced them to give up great portions of their land claims in North America.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Britain announced it was creating four new North American colonies and Georgia's southern boundary was extended to St. Mary's River. Also, the proclamation reserved all lands west of the Appalachians for Indians.
