    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13 day confrontation between the Soviet Union and the United States after the United States found Soviet nuclear missile presence in Cuba in 1962. The United states support dictator Batista in Cuba and Soviets supported Castro.The CIA found Soviet Missile presence in Cuba after the invasion. They felt they needed protection. The United States demanded that all Soviet Nuclear Missiles shall be removed from Cuba. After 13 days Soviets agree and remove all missiles.
  • Communists take over China

    Communists take over China
    Communists took over China and quickly won over its people and rose to power in 1946. The Communist party was led by Mao Zedong who eliminated all who did not value his morals. On October 1st, 1946 he announced China's new Republic.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine was a United States foreign policy to stop Soviet political expansion during the Cold War. It was announced by congress by President Truman on March 12th, 1947. He asked congress for 400 million dollars to assist Greece and Turkey in militarily and economically to resist communist and Soviet influence and lean towards the United States and democratic influence.

    The Berlin Blockade which was from June 1948 to May 1949 was when Eastern Berlin which was controlled by the Soviets blocked off by The Western Allies which controlled Western Berlin , they cut off all railway, road , and canal access to Western sectors. During that time Western Berlin flew in supplies through plane known as the Berlin airlift.

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift was response to the Soviets Berlin Blockade in 1948, with the Western Allies sending in supplies for Berlin. In order to provide for such many people a plane carrying more than 1 in a half million tons of supplies flew in ever 30 seconds. They did this to show the Soviets their resiliency and that they wouldn't be frighted. In 1949 the Soviets ended the Blockade and were after that considered as international bullies and the Soviets failed very badly.

    The Marshall Plan was an American foreign policy passed in 1948 to aid Western Europe. The United States 12 million dollars in economic aid to help rebuild Western Europe countries after World War ll. They also put the policy in motion in hopes of countries staying away from communism, buy american products, and build healthy relationships with countries in case of future conflicts.

    NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is an international alliance that consists of 29 member states from North America and Europe. It was established at the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on 4 April 1949. The treaty states that if an armed attack occurs against one of the member states, it shall be considered an attack against all members, and other members shall assist the attacked member, with armed forces if necessary.

    The Korean War was a war between South Korea and North Korea in July 25th,1950. North Korea was communists with a strong army backed by the Soviets and South Korea was a stronger economically developed country and was backed by the United States. North Korea invaded South Korea and were winning until The United Sates and other countries sent troops to help. They battled along their borders until they decided to keep the country split in July 27th, 1953 and is split till this day.

    Revolt in Hungary was the Hungarian uprising against the Soviet Communist party in 1956. The problem began on October 1956 when thousands of protesters demanded a more democratic political system and freedom from Soviet oppression. In response the Communist appointed Imre Nagy. He left the Warsaw pact. Shortly after Soviets invaded. The national uprising lasted 12 days before Hungary was toppled by Soviet tanks and troops. Thousands of Hungarians were killed and many fled the country.

    Sputnik was the Earth's first artificial satellite and was launched on Oct 4th, 1957 by the Soviets. This was a huge leap forward for the Soviets and huge step backwards for the United States in the space race. As a result it intensified Cold War tensions and the arms race and the space race, Both the US and the Soviets pushed to develop new technologies.
  • Great Leap Forward

    Great Leap Forward
    The Great Leap Forward was an economic and society effort pushed by Mao Zedong to meet the modern industrial standards in 5 years. The goal was impossible but Mao made them try anyways.Between 1958 and 1960, millions of Chinese citizens were moved onto communes while others worked in factories with hopes to China's agricultural output. The results were terrible. In the end 48 million people died in China by starvation from lying about their output to please Mao and their economy was disastrous.

    Winston Churchill went to the Unite States in 1964 and spoke about how he was highly concerned about Soviet aggression in Eastern Europe. The Iron Curtain was the division between Capitalists (Democratic) countries in Western Europe and Communist countries in Eastern Europe. He wanted America to get more involved in Soviet aggression.

    Cultural Revolution
    In 1966 Mao Zedong and his followers known as the Red Guards went a spree of killing intellectuals and anyone who opposed his ideals or his morals. This included public humiliations, beatings, torture and executions. The violence was to solidify Mao's position, stop intellectuals from sprouting ideas, keep people in dear, and to get China back to its roots and back to working. The violence stopped in 1976 and Mao kept his power.

    Revolt in Czechoslovakia is when in August 20th, 1968 The Soviet Union led Warsaw PACT troops to invade Czechoslovakia to crack down on reformists trends in Prague. Czechoslovakia protested the invasion with non-violent protests and public demonstrations but were no match for Soviet tanks. Czechoslovakia was the last Eastern European democratic country but fell from the Soviets and became a communist country

    The Apollo Program was a initiative to land a man on the Moon and return him safely back to Earth set in motion by the United States human spaceflight program and carried out by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Six of the missions (Apollos 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17) were in place to achieve this goal. They experienced many adversity's but the Soviets and other factors motivated them to push towards being the more accomplished in the space race. They succeeded on 1969-1972

    The war was was when Vietnam was first held by France but Vietnamese nationalists named Ho chi Minh wanted independence. A conference split Vietnam into two, with Ho taking charge of North Vietnam. He mad it a communist country, North Vietnam was being aggressive towards South Vietnam. Seeing that the government of South Vietnam was being threatened by Communist they began to send a large number of troops, 500,000 by 1968. When US left in 1978 North overran South and made it one.
