-Relations between the Western powers and the Soviets had worsened since Yalta, the US has a new President (Harry Truman) with a tougher stance towards the USSR than Roosevelt. -
US: Truman Doctrine
US: Truman Doctrine (support for countries that reject Communism) 1947.-$400 million to Greece and Turkey.-The Marshall Plan (1947)provided $12.5 billion to help rebuild Western Europe. ->So that the US can get profits and want the countries to remain democratic. -

-USSR blocked off acess to west berlin which is occupied by the allies.

-North Korea was backed up by the Soviet Union while the South Korea was supported by the US. -

-USSR creates its own defence pact in 1955 with its member nations in Eastern Europe. -

-The Soviet Union and the US start competing producing better satellites. -
Cuba blockade
-USSR was shipping missiles to cuba and the US responds the situation with a blockade. -
Vietnam war
-Communist north vietnam supported by USSR with weapon and money. South vietnam supported by us not only weapons and money but also many troops. US feared the spread of communism and directly involved in an unpopular war.
