  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference
    From July 17 to August 2, 1945, Allied leaders met outside of Berlin. They gathered to demand the surrender of Japan and set up a framework for postwar Europe. Each leader was trying to get the strongest position and the most influence for his own country, but the countries fell into two camps. The Potsdam Conference set up a competition between capitalist Western powers (the United States and Great Britain) and the communist-controlled Soviet Union. This rivalry grew into the Cold War.

    Nato pact
    A Treaty was signed on May 14th, 1955, for friendship and cooperation between hungary, czechoslovakia and The Soviet Union. Soviet soldiers were positioned in the other countries and they felt pressure, because there were soldiers of war close to them. Eventually, everyone withdrew from the treaty on July 1st, 1991, because they all disagreed with each others opinions and decisions.

    Considered to be the most forgotten war among US citizens, the Korean war was started because of the separation of Korea, into north and south. North Korea invaded South Korea. As a result of that, the US came to defend The south, because of an alliance that had been created prior.

    The US did not like that communism was spreading throughout Asia. many non communist propositions were made by the president of the US. Many communist activists in Asia were killed or injured because of those propositions. The leaders of Vietnam were extremely offended and responded to the us in a hateful way.     On October 4th, 1957, The first artificial space satellite was launched into orbit bu the Soviet Union. This angered the u.s, because at the time, they were in a race to invent and launch their own satellite before the USSR could. The USSR was then noted for their scientific achievement, Until the U.S topped them by getting people to the moon.

    Cuban Missile Crisis

    13 day military and political standoff between the USA and the Soviet union, in october 1962. A Naval barrier was placed around cuba, that told other countries that the us was ready for war. Eventually they agreed to remove cubas missiles for the USA’s promise to not invade cuba.
