Tearing down the Berlin Wall
This event started in 1945 and ended in May 2, 1945. Why it happened is they wanted a change and have peace with the west. Yes there was combat they attacked the wall from the East and West. It ended by the Wall being demolished. -
Berlin Blockade/Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Blockade occurred June 1948 to May 1949. Stalin wanted to destroy the German economy so he created a new currency. The reason the blockade happened is because of the start of the Cold War. The blockade ended up lasting around 11 months. There was no actual fighting with the blockade. The soviet union lifted the blockade and was broken by a British airlift. -
Korean War
The Korean War was a war between North and South Korea which started on Jun 25th 1950. It ended up starting because of North Korea invading a part of South Korea. This war ending up lasting for 3 years and a month. Yes there was a lot of fighting it was mainly over land and disagreements. After the death of Stalin an agreement ended up being discussed between the countries. -
The Space Race
The Space race started in 1955 and ended in 1975. It was between the United States and the Soviet Union. There was no fighting just friendly banter. The United States won because we accomplished landing on the moon before the Soviet Union. -
Vietnam War
The war started in 1955 and ended around 20 years later. The Vietminh won the battle of Dien Bien Phu and ended the French involvement this causing the United States to step in. Yes there was indeed a lot of combat and fighting between the United States and Vietnam during the war around 2 million died in result. The North Vietnam was defeated. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban missile Crisis started in October 1962. This happened when the soviet union decided to start to plant nuclear missiles in Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis only ended up lasting 13 years until the confrontation ended. There was no fighting involved just confrontation between the Soviet Union and United States. The Russian leader agreed on disarming all of the missiles which ended the Missile Crisis. -
Soviet invasion of Afghanistan
The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan started in 1979 and ended up lasting around 10 years. It started because the Soviets invaded Afghanistan for the communist government. Yes there was combat and fighting resulting in 2 Million Afghan troops dead and 15,000 Soviet troop dead. The Soviets ended up winning after 10 years of the invasion.
