Cold War Begins - Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference was a meeting held between the British prime minister Winston Churchill, Soviet premier Joseph Stalin, and US President Franklin D. Rosevelt. They talked about what they were going to do with the conquered nation of Germany. They did not have the same ideas in mind, which started tension thus beginning the Cold War. -
Hiroshima
The US had been provoked into joining the war by Japan, who had bombed Pearl Harbor. Japan had the upper hand for a second until the United States destroyed their ships and let loose one of the first atomic bombs in Hiroshima, killing over 150,000 people. A few months later the US dropped another atomic bombing in Nagasaki, killing over 75,000 people. Japan had no other choice but to surrender defeat to the United States. -
Marshall Plan - ERP
The Marshall Plan is officially called the 'European Recovery Program' (ERP). It was created to help aid and give economic support to Western Europe. The United State's goals were to rebuild war-devastated regions, remove trade barriers, make Europe prosperous again, and to prevent the spread of communism. -
