This was an American policy which basically stated the the US would back any country fighting the influence of the Soviet Union and communism. -

The United States gave money to Western European countries to rebuild after the war. It also helped deter communism in these countries. -

The Soviets controlled sector of Berlin was blocked off from the rest of the city, and from the allies. People started to starve and the Russians took revenge on the people of Berlin. -
