    WW2 meeting between the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union to discuss Germany and Europe's postwar reorganization.

    The Truman Doctrine was a foreign policy that was made to counter communist expansion in Turkey and Greece.
  • Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan was a initiative to aid Western Europe and give 13 billion dollars in economic assistance to help rebuild Western Europe economies after WW2. Its purpose was to prevent the spread of communism.
  • NATO was founded

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was a military alliance between several North American and European countries
  • Sino-Soviet Treaty

    The Sino-Soviet Treaty was between the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China committing them to mutual defense.
  • Korean War

    North Korea invaded South Korea staring the Korean War. The United states came to the aid of South Korea and the Soviet Union and China came to the aid of North Korea. This started the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union leading to the Cold War.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw Pact was a treaty among the Soviet Union and seven Soviet satellite states. It was created in reaction to West Germany's integration in NATO.
  • Vietnam War

    The Vietnam war was a war between North Vietnam and the government of South Vietnam. The north was supported by the Soviet Union and other communist allies, and the South was supported by the United States.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    The Hungarian Revolution was a nationwide revolt against the communist government.
  • Space Race

    The Space Race was a rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union about who could reach space first and who could go the furthest. The Soviet Union launched the first artificial earth satellite called Sputnik and it concerned the American public. They were worried that the Soviet Union was spying on them with the satellite or that they could launch a nuclear warhead anywhere on earth with the rocket they used to send sputnik to space.
  • U-2 Incident

    Pilot Francis Gary Powers was shot down in a United States U-2 spy plane while in Soviet airspace. The US government initially tired to cover up the plane's mission, but was forced to admit its intention to collect Soviet intelligence data when the Soviet Union came forward with the pilot and spy technology from the plane wreckage. This was an embarrassment for the United States and further deteriorated its relationship with the Soviet Union.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    A Failed attempt by a force of Cuban exiles trained by the CIA to invade Cuba and overthrow Castro and the Communist Government.
  • Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall was built between East and West Germany
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    A U-2 plane confirmed suspicions that the Soviet Union were building nuclear missile sites in Cuba. After many negotiations, Kennedy and Khrushchev came to an agreement that the Soviets would dismantle their weapons in Cuba and the United States would avoid invading Cuba again and dismantle their missiles in Turkey. This was the closest the Cold War came to becoming a nuclear war.

    The Berlin Wall was taken down and it marked the end of the Cold war.
