Joseph Stalin
1926 he became the new Soviet dictator. In 1927 he began a massive effort to industrialize his country. Stalin was known for his most devastating policy; the collectivization of farms within the Soviet Union during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Some estimate that over 30 million Soviet citizens died from starvation as a direct consequence of Stalin's policies. -
Mao Zedong
Mao Zedong is a Chinese man who struggled against the Nationalist government in China to establish his own Communist government. He was the founding father of the People's Republic of China. His supporters praised him for raising China up to a major power. Under his leadership, Chinese population almost doubled. Those who opposed his rule claimed that his reign killed millions of people through starvation and forced labor. -

The United Nations is the largest international organization. It replaced the League of Nations. It was created to maintain peace and to promote cooperation in solving international conflicts. -
Containment
Containment was a policy that the United States imposed in order to stop or slow down the spread of communism. It mostly affected the Japanese living on the west coast. They were moved to "concentration camps" that held Japanese to prevent communism from spreading and to prevent the communists/ Japanese from spying. -
Truman Doctrine
Was a policy set by Harry Truman in his speech saying that Greece and Turkey would have support from the U.S. economically militarily in order to prevent them to fall to Soviet sphere. The Truman Doctrine was on March 12, 1947. Greece and Turkey received aid equally even though Greece's problems were more severe. -
Marshall Plan
The marshall plan was the plan to aid europe financially after WWII. The plan supported Europe for 4 years, supporting a war devastated Europe. It began in April of 1948 and it rebuilt Europe after WWII. -
Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Airlift was a way that let the United States supply Berlin, without provoking a war with the USSR. The Soviets had cut all the supply lines to the city, so the US needed another way to get supplies into the city. Over a period of 11 months, the US airlifted supplies into Berlin. Over 2 million tons of food, medicine, and coal was shipped in. -
N.A.T.O
N.A.T.O (aka) North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a military and political aliance among 28 countries. The countries that are a part of N.A.T.O. all have a democratic government and one person from each country meet at N.A.C (aka) North Atlantic Counsil where they make political decisions. -
Korean War
The Korean War marked the turning point of the Cold War. It was the point where prominent communist and demoratic forces fought. Chinese forces support North Korea in trying to conquer the southern half of Korea. To counter that, Truman supports South Korea and pushes the communists back. General MacArthur proposes the idea of using the atomic bomb to destroy the communist forces completely, but Truman refuses to comply. Truman fires MaceArthur and replaces him with Matthew Ridgeway. -
Joseph McCarthy (McCarthyism)
Joseph McCarthy was a Republican US senator who created the idea of the "Red Scare". He said that there were communist spies everywhere. This turned Americans onto each other and the sentences of innocent Americans. Because some of these were outrageous accusations, McCarthy was eventually found out and shown to public. -
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Born on Oct. 14, 1890 and died on March 28, 1969. he was the president from 1953-1961. during World war 2 he was a five star general. he was responsible for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in operation torch. -
Nikita Khrushchev
Khrushchev led the Soviet Union during part of the Cold War. He served as First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, and as Chairman of the Council of Ministers, or Premier, from 1958 to 1964 -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was an alience between Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and The Soviet Union. It was signed in Poland in 1955 and it states that these countries must come to each others aid if they become a victom of Foreign Aggression. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a Cold War-era military conflict that was between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The North was supported by communist allies and the South was supported by the United States and other anti-communist countries. North Vietnam relied on conventional war whereas South Vietnam depended on air superiority and overwhelming fire power to conduct search and destroy operations. -
John F. Kennedy
born on May 29, 1917 and died on Nov.22, 1963. he was in office from January 20, 1961 – November 22, 1963. He was the commander during World War 2 in south pacific served as a u.s. senate from 1953-1960. he was invloved in the Cuban Missle crisis and the bulding of the Berlin Wall. -

A 13-day confrontation between the Soviet Union and Cuba on one side, and the United States on the other, in October 1962. It was one of the major confrontations of the Cold War, and is generally regarded as the moment in which the Cold War came closest to turning into a nuclear conflict. -

Ronald Reagan Is President
Between 1981 and 1989, Ronald Reagan, a republican polititian, served as the 40th president of the United States. During this time, he decreased the inflation rate by 8% and developed a huge defense system. He significantly contributed to the conclusion of the Cold War. He died in 2004. -
Iran Contra Scandal
In 1986, seven American citizens were being held as hostages in Iran as a threat to the United States. The United States sold weapons to Iran in exchange for these American hostages. In one of Ronald Reagan's speeches, he claimed to have been aware of the weapons exchange, but he dennied that the purpose of the trade was for the American hostages. George HW Bush is President
After serving as a veteran in World War II and a vice president of the United States, George H.W. Bush becomes the president of the US. Many democrats disliked his methods because his campaign portrayed him as too liberal andunpatriotic. Although, his endorsment from Regean reassured the American citizens. He played a very significant role in the Persian Gulf War, and sided drug traffickers and cracked down on opponents. He was a very good defenseman but was proceed by Clinton in 1992. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
In the early winter of 1989, Germany's eastern bloc's autorization system was liberalized. Germany was no longer able to keep the Berlin Wall stadning, so on November 9th, 1989, thousands of Germans on each side of the wall gathered around the wall to witness its demolition. As the demolition began, German civilians celebrated and stormed the wall. The civilians of both east and west Berlin were able to be together. -
