The Cuban Missle Crisis
This crisis was the event that came closest to starting a world nuclear war. Thanks to John F Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev war was averted. This crisis started when reconnassiance teams took photographs of Soviets building nuclear warheads in Cuba. As long as America would not invade Cuba, the Soviets would withdrawl their missles from Cuba. -
Diefenbaker, Bomarc Missles and nucleear warheads in Canada
Bomarc missles were the alternative to the Avro Arrow that Diefenbaker cancelled. These missles were capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Diefenbaker did not want nuclear weapons in Canada but the Liberals did. Diefenbakers Conservatives lost in the '63 election and Pearsons Liberals accepted the Missles. -
Canada-Soviet Hockey Series
Canadians tied with Soviets with little time remaining. Paul Henderson saved the day scoring a goal to make the score 6-5 Canadian victory. The next three games were in the Canadians favour resulting in a sweep of the Russians. -
