Potsdam Confrence
was held at Cecilienhof, the home of Crown Prince Wilhelm Hohenzollern, in Potsdam, occupied Germany, from July 16 to August 2, 1945. Participants were the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The three nations were represented by Communist Party General Secretary Joseph Stalin, Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and later, Clement Attlee, and President Harry S. Truman.The goals of the conference included the establishment of post-war order, and peace treaties issues. -
Truman Doctrine
was a policy set forth by the U.S. President Harry S Truman in a speech on March 12, 1947 stating that the U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into the Soviet sphere. -
CIA
is a civilian intelligence agency of the United States government. It is an executive agency and reports directly to the Director of National Intelligence, with responsibility for providing national security intelligence assessment to senior United States policymakers. -
Marshall Plan
was the large-scale American program to aid Europe where the United States gave monetary support to help rebuild European economies after the end of World War II in order to combat the spread of Soviet communism.The goals of the United States were to rebuild a war-devastated region, remove trade barriers, modernize industry, and make Europe prosperous again. -

was a competition for supremacy in nuclear warfare between the United States, the Soviet Union, and their respective allies during the Cold War. -

NASA was created. The space race was to see which country could "rule the air" the fastest. At a time when all countries are at odds with eachother, this competion would show what country was on top. -

Joseph McCarthy was a major influence during this time, he esablished the term "McCarthism". He accused hundreds of average Americans of being communist. The Hollywood Ten were also accused. Americans wanted to blame someone, anyone, for the problems over seas. -
Warsaw Pact
was a mutual defense treaty between eight communist states of Eastern Europe in existence during the Cold War. The founding treaty was established under the initiative of the Soviet Union. -
Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs Invasion was an unsuccessful action by a CIA-trained force of Cuban exiles to invade southern Cuba, with support and encouragement from the US government, in an attempt to overthrow the Cuban government of Fidel Castro. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
When Cuba and the Soviet Union secretly had bulit bases for atomic missiles pointed at the U.S. but after an agreement was signed, Cuba sent them back to Russia.
