The DEW Line Story Originally known as the North American Air Defence Agreement and later renamed North American Aerospace Command, NORAD was created to alert North America of attacks coming from the Soviet Union. DEW, the Distant Early Warning line, stretched from Alaska to Greenland, set up by American and Canadian governments. -

Communist Soviet originated missiles were being built in Cuba. A blockade was put up by the US to block Soviet ships from reaching Cuba with naval ships surrounding the coast of the island. The Soviets eventualy retreated. -
