President Harry Truman Offered any country who was in risk of a communist takeover economic, political, and if necessary, military aid. -
Marshall Plan
When the U.S. gave over $12 billion in economic support to help rebuild western Europe after WW2. This helped prevent the spread of communism in western Europe. -
Alger Hiss case
Alger Hiss, a government official, was a suspected soviet spy, and was convicted for perjury on accounts of espionage. He served a short sentence in prison and stuck to his claim of innocence until his death in 1996. -
Berlin Airlift
Soviet troops cut off the entire city of Berlin, in a chance to starve out citizens and prevent Germany from becoming a strong independent country. America flew in planes over the blockade and brought in medical supplies, food, and other necessities so the citizens of Berlin could survive until the Soviets ended the blockade. -
NATO
the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created to have an alliance to take down and show power over the communist party. -
Soviet Bomb Test
Through Soviet spy rings in the US's Manhattan Project, the USSR was able to build, and successfully test their first atomic weapon. -
Rosenburg Trial
Julius and Ethel Rosenburg, your average american citizens, were found and tried as Soviet spies. They were thought to have transmitted valuable information on the Manhattan Project to the Russians. They were sentenced to death in 1953. -
Korean War
The war started when North Korea, backed by China and the Soviet Union, moved troops to the South. The US assisted the South and sent troops into Korea to fight off the communists. After the war, Korea was split into North and South at the 38th Parallel. -
Army-McCarthy Hearings
Joseph McCarthy, already famous for his wild accusations of communist ties, was tried by the army for using improper influence to win preferential and better treatment for a staff member. This greatly decreased his influence and notoriety because the public saw his true intentions. -
Battle of Dien Bien Phu
The French were ambushed while in a low valley, not thinking that the Viet-Minh could carry their equipment up the treacherous mountains. They were swiftly defeated with waves artillery and small-arms fire. -
Geneva Conference
Soviet, Communist, and Free powers met in 1954 to discuss the aftermath of the Korean and indochina wars. They decided to split Korea into North and South at the 38th parallel. -

A Soviet Defense treaty made and intended to counteract NATO. -
Hungarian Revolution
This was a Nationwide revolt against the Communist Regime in Hungary that lasted a month. It started with thousands of protesters and turned violent. -
U2 Incident
A US U2 Spyplane was shot down by the Soviet Air Defence Forces while performing recon deep in soviet territory. the Soviets captured the pilot, who we recovered two years later in a prisoner exchange. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
The Bay of Pigs was a failed military invasion attempted by the CIA. They rounded up Cuban immigrants and exiles to take back their homeland and overthrow Fidel Castro. The operation was a fail. -

This was a barrier running through Berlin the Physically and ideologically divided the city. It was built by the soviets to demoralize and divide those living in the east from the rest of the world. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
In response to the US having missiles in turkey, and the bay of pigs invasion, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev and Joseph Stalin agreed to place Soviet missiles in Cuba. the US established a blockade and didnt let the missiles through to Cuba. -
