Yalta Conference ist a meeting of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. During the conference, the 3 leaders agreed to demand Germany’s surrender and began plans for a post-war world. -

Iron Curtain
Winston Churchill made the term "Iron Curtain" popular in his speech. The Iron Curtain is a physical boundary that seperated Europe into 2 different sections after World War II. The Eastern and Western parts of Europe were seperated. The Eastern part of the country is connected to or influenced by the Soviet Union. This was a social, economic, and political division of groups. -
Marshall Plan
Secretary of State George C. Marshall announced Marshall Plan at the commencement speech at Harvard University on June 5, 1947. Marshall Plan als known as the European Recovery Program was to help Europe/cuntrie to combat poverty, disease, and malnurtition. The United States gave Europe support on rebuilding European economies which would prevent the spread of communism. -
Truman Doctrine
President Harry S. Truman announced that the United States assist any country whose stability was threatened by communism. This was a foriegn policy that confined communism and the spread of communism. -
NATO
Communist expansion encuraged the United States and 11 other Western nations to form the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. -
Berlin Blockade Ends
On May 12, 1949, an early crisis of the Cold War comes to an end when the Soviet Union lifts its 11-month blockade against West Berlin. The blockade had been broken by a massive U.S.-British airlift of vital supplies to West Berlin’s two million citizens. This ended the war and it reunited East and west Berlin. -
Korean War Begins
The Korean War begins with Stalin equipping North Korea with Soviet weapons in the invasion against South Korea. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. The United States armed forces were at their highest state of readiness ever and Soviet field commanders in Cuba were prepared to use battlefield nuclear weapons to defend the island if it was invaded. Luckily, thanks to the bravery of two men, President John F. Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev, war was averted. -

Fall of the Berlin Wall reunited East and West Berlin and eliminated communism in East Berlin. -
Dissolution of the USSR
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was formally dissolved on 26 December 1991 by declaration of the Soviet of the Republics of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. This was the collapse of the Soviet Union. The west had victory which was a triumph over communism and ending the Cold War.
