Yalta Conference
The Allied leaders, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin met at Yalta to make important decisions regarding the future progress of the war and the postwar world, such as the future of Germany, Eastern Europe and the United Nations. -

Took place during WWII at a Russian resort in the Crimea. U.S President FDR, British Prime Winston Churchill, and Soviet Union Premier Joseph Stalin made decisions on the post-war world. They majorily talked about how the Soviets would eneter Japan and that Germany would assume some of the war repirations. U.S.-Soviet would continue through the post-war period. -
Iron Curtain Speech
In this speech that Winston Churchill delivered to the students of Westminster college in Missouri, he addressed how an "Iron Curtain" had been drawn across eastern Europe. This speech changed the overall opinions westerners had about the communist east. Many historians mark this speech as the beginning of the cold war. -

Truman Doctrine
In this address to congress, Harry S. Truman pleaded with them to assist Greece and Turkey in their efforts to avoid being controlled by communism. He asked to send hundreds of millions of dollars to these countries so they can protect themselves succesfully. This doctrine also set the tone for America's foreign policy for the next 40 years to come. This policy stated that America would assist any free country being coerced by communism. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan was shared to the world when George Marshall gave a speech at Harvard stating his plan to provide economic assistance to the war stricken Europe. European nations would receive almost 13 billion dollars because of the Marshall Plan. The Plan significantly improved the economies of most european nations and help formed what we now know today as the European Union. -
OAS Formed
The Organization of American States was established to integrate the politics, economics, and social aspects of its various members. Latin America was eager to create this organization so that they would not become a victim of America's pursuit of communism. -
Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Airlift occured because the Soviet Union that owned East Berlin was threatining the well being of the American owned West Berlin. The Soviet Union conducted a naval blockade on West Berlin and America immediately resaponded with the fleet of C-47 and C-52 aircraft that carried tons of supplies; much more than the Soviet Union had estimated. This Airlift prevented America from having to abandon Berlin. -
NATO Formed
An intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on April 4th, 1949. -
Warsaw Pact Formed
Mutual defense treaty between 8 communist states of Central and Eastern Europe in existence during the Cold War.
