The House Un-American Activities Committe
Martin Dies was the 1st chairman, it was created to do investigations of communist activities. Many peoples 1st amendment were violated and those who refused toanswer their questions, were put on a blacklist. -
Cold War
On 4 February 1945 Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin met at Yalta. Roosevelt asked for Soviet support in the war against Japan; Churchill pressed for free elections and democratic governments in Eastern Europe and Stalin demanded a Soviet sphere of political influence in Eastern Europe. Ultimately, the Soviets broke their agreements leading to the Cold War. -
Truman Doctrine
President Truman warned the U.S that they should stop the Soviet communism from growing any powerful; known as containment. -

It was a plan of General George Marshall to reconstruct Europe and the U.S provide economic assisstance. -
Berlin Airlift
Soviets placed a blockade on the allied sector of Berlin to starve the population into Soviet support. The allied response was a unbelievably massive air supply- flying night and day to feed the city. -

Kprean War
Communist North Korea invaded South Korea. The UN asked the U.S. and token forces from other countries to help South Korea. The U.N. forces pushed the Communists out of South Korea and far to the north. Communist China invaded and attacked the U.N. forces but people were really hesitant to really fight the Chinese because they barely finished with WWII. -
Space Race
Russia launches Sputnik, punks America on October 4, 1957. America launches Explorer 1 nearly 4 months later. Basically America and Russia were fighting for higher level performance in space.
