Formation of the United Nations
The United Nations is an organization used to promote international co-operation. It had been used during WW2 to prevent any more conflicts. During the world war people used the name to refering to their alliance. -

Potsdam Conference
The Potsdam Conference was one of the last World War Two meetings held in Potsdam Germany on July 17th, 1945. The participants were the allies of world war two which were deciding on how divide out Germany who had surrendered before. They made agreements on Europe and punishments for land and war. -
Iron Curtain
On March 5th, 1946 Churchill gave a speech during the cold war about the iron curtain. The iron curtain was a boundary that divided Europe into to two seperate places. On one side of Europe were countries that were connected to the Soviet union. On the other side they had democratic governments. -

The Truman Doctrine was a policy by Prsident Truman. The policy meant that the United Sates would support Turkey and Greece to help them and provide assistance so they didnt fall into the soviet sphere, -
Marshall Plan
On April 3rd, 1948 After the devastation of World War Two which had caused many deaths, injuries, and ruined buildings, the United States came up with The Marshall Plan which was signed by president Truman. It was used to prevent the spread of communism. It also helped rebuild European economies. After the plan, The European economies began to grow and finally ended in in 1951 and was replaced by the Mutual Security Plan. -

Formation of NATO
NATO- North Atlantic Treaty Organization was an atlantic treaty signed in 1949. This had included the U.S. and Treaty of Brussels. They had agreed that an attack North America or Europe would be an attack to all of them. -
Korean War
The war between North Korean and South Korea was the Korean war. The results of the war ended in division of Korea during World War Two. The United States and many other countries had assisted in helping South Korea. -
Stalin Dies
Joseph Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union during the 1920's. At the Central Committee Stalin had been the general. In 1941 he served as The Premier of the Soviet Union. -
Warsaw Pact formed
The Warsaw Pact was a treaty over 8 sommunist states of Central and Eatern Europe.This treaty was during the cold war. This was a mutual defense that put the Soviets in charge of the member states. It had called the members of the states and defended anyone attacked by an outside force. -
Suez Crisis
The Suez Crisis was a military conflict between Egypt, Britain, France, Israel, U.S., Soviet Union, and United Nations that began October 29th, 1956. After the Egypt governemnt had nationalized the Suez Canal France, Israel, and Britain had attacked Egypt. The U.S. had then made Britain and France withdraw. The Suez Crisis had ended in 1957. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnam War had followed the Indochina War and occurred in Vietnam as a Cold War. The war had been fought between North and South Vietnam. It was supported by the U.S. and had ended with a communist victory which took power. -
Sputnik 1 and Sputnik 2
Sputnik 1 was the first artificial earth satellite. It was launched by the Soviet Union. The satellite had traveled at about 29,000 kph. Sputnik 2 was the second space aircraft that was launched into earths orbit. It had carried a dog and and was 4 meters. -
Berlin Aircraft
The Berlin airlift was used to carry supplies to people in West Berlin. It had 200.000 flights. The blockade was lifted and created two different German states. -
NASA is formed
On October 1st, 1958 NASA bcame operational. President Eisenhower established the National Space Administration. During the Cold War the country could not let the launch of Sputnik pass. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
In 1961 was a failed invasion by Cuba. It was suppose to overthrow the left wing governement of Fidel Castro. The invaded force was later on defeated by the Cuban forces. -
Berlin Wall Constructed
The Berlin Wall was built by communist East German authorities during the cold war. It was built to cut off the land from East Berlin and East Germany. West Berlin was surrounded by large walls and other things guarding it to prevent people from getting over. On November 9th, 1989 it was finally done. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
During the Cold War on October 14th, 1962 the Cuban Missile Crisis between the United States and Soviet Union began. After the attempt by the United States to overthrow the Cuban goverment of Fidel Castro and failed, Castro thought the U.S. would try again. The Soviet union then had built missile sites in Cuba. After president Kennedy had found out, he put ships all around cuba. The leaders then came to an agreement to end the missile crisis. -
Kennedy Is Assasinated
On November 22, 1963 President Kennery was shot and killed in Dllas Texas during a motorcade. Lee Oswald was the person who had killed Kennedy and was killed by Jack Ruby before he got sent to trial. -
USS Pueblo Incident
The USS Pueblo was an American research ship. The ship was attacked by the air and naval forces of North Korea. After capturing the American sailors, the North Korean's tortured and held them hostage for 11 months. -
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
The Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty was a treaty used to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. 190 states had agreed to the treaty which had officially started in 1940. -
UN Resolution 2758
The United Nations passed in 1971. The Chinese civil war resulted in communists in control of main China. It had been passed in return to United Nations General Assembly Resolution. -
Nixon visits China
In 1972 President Nixon visited the republic of China. It normalized the relations between the U.S.and China. This visit had allowed the Americans to see pictures of China in more than two decades. -
Paris Peace Accords
The Paris Peace Accords were meant to make peace and to put an end to the Vietnam war. This settlement cause a cease-fire through Vietnam. The U.S. withdrawlded the U.S. troops so Vietnam let the U.S. prisonors from war go. -
Salt I & Salt II Agreements
The Strategic Arms Limitation Talk were responses to the international treaties. It had involde the United states and the Soviet Union. The two talks were called Salt 1 and Salt 2. In 1986 the U.S. decided to withdrawl from salt. -

The fall of Saigon was the Vietnam army capturing Saigon. This had marked the end of the Vietnam war. the end of the war had resulted in Vietnam becoming communist with North Vietnams victory. -
Iran Hostage Crisis
The Iran Hostage Crisis was a crisis between the United States and Iran. A group of Islamic people overtook the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. They had taken and held hostage over 60 Americans. After 444 days they released the hostages free, the day after the signing of Algiers Accords on January 20th, 1981. -
USSR invades Afghanistan
The Soviet War part of the Cold War that happened for 9 years.This war was fought between soviet led forces against the multi-national groups. Millions of Afghans fleed their country znd thousands of people were killed. -

In 1980 Jimmy Carte decided that the United States would boycott the Moscow Olympics because of the invasion of Afghanistan. Other countries had joined the U.S. in the boycott. -
Korean Airline Flight 007
The Korean Airline Flight 007 was a Korean plane that was flying from New York to Seoul. This plane was shot down in 1983 into the Sea of Japan. The plane had been shot by the Soviet Interceptor. Every person on that plane had been killed. -
U.S. invades Grenada
President Reagan cited a threat to the American Nationals on the Caribbean Natiom to invade their safety. Grenadas governemt had been overthrown. -
Iran Contra Affair
The Iran Contra Affair was a political scandal in the U.S. There were American hostages in Lebanon being held by Iranian people. The scandal had been used to save the hostages. The plan was that Israel would ship things to Iran and the U.S. would recieve the payment from Israel. -
Chernobyl disaster
The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident in 1986. An explosion of fire occurred over much of Western Europe. Many deaths and injuries resulted from this explosion and is known to be one of the worst nuclear accidents. -
Tiananmen Square Massacre
Almost a million Chinese people crowded in central Bejing to protest for a better democracy.Later on police had stormed through firing at the protestors. Many of the protestors were killed and arrested. The attack of the Chinese government had shocked the enemies and allies of the Cold War. -
Dissolving of the Soviet Union
On December 26th, 1991 the dissolution of the Soviet Union was finalized. It had seperated into 15 independent states. It had signaled the end of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.
