Meeting between Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin to discuss the war effort against the Axis Powers. Tensions over the faith of Poland showed that this great alliance was crumbling. This meeting foreshadowed the Cold War that would come. -
Soviet Union explodes its first atomic bomb
Soviet scientists constructed buildings, bridges, and other city structures within the perimeter of the area along with animals. When the bomb was dropped all of the objects were destroyed making it a success. This event would instill fear in Americans and bomb shelters would be created across the nation. -
North Korean War starts
The US fights for South Korea while China fights for North Korea. China is assisted by the Soviet Union. Both the US and the Soviet Union were fighting this war against each other without really combating each other. The US wanted to stop communism without being in a direct war with USSR. -

Allies member and leader of the Soviet Union dies leaving a power struggle of who will succeed him. -
Vietnam War
The North Vietnamese government and the Viet Cong were fighting to unify Vietnam under communism. The US entered with hopes to prevent the spread of communism throughout the world.America would loose the war which is often labeled as unnecessary. -
Joseph McCarthy dies
Senator Joseph McCarthy dies from Hepatitis. For years he had beeen the face that instilled fear into Americans with his way of accusing people of being communist and exposing dangers of it. He developed the second wave of Red Scare also known McCarthysim. -
The Orbit of Sputnik
Soviet missle is the first object to be put into Earth's orbit. Americans were not happy with this accomplishment so they began their own explorations. The US would compete against communism in an era known as the Space Race. -
Castro takes office
Fidel Castro becomes Prime Minister of Cuba and turns its goverment into a communist one. This would be a country within such a short distance that would be allied with the Soviet Union. -
Berlin Wall rises
The Communist government of the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany, begins to build a barbed wire and concrete wall. The purpose is to prevent western powers from threatening the socialist state. This wall would seperate a nation and its people. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
A confrontation between the US and the USSR over Soviet missiles deployed in Cuba. It aired on television worldwide and was the closest the Cold War came to an actual full-scale nuclear war. -
Moon landing
Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. The moment was “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” America had won a glorious battle agains the Soviet Union during the Space Race. -
South Vietnam falls
After decades of war, the Vietnam War finally came to an end. South Vietnam surrendered to North Vietnam, giving Communism a win. The United States fought a war and lost many casualties all for nothing. -
Mikhali Gorbachev steps in
Mikhali Gorbachev became the last leader of the Soviet Union. He brought massive economic, social, and political changes. For the first time citizens had the freedom to state their voices. He helped varve an end to the Cold War. -
The Berlin Wall falls
East Germany tells its citizens that they can cross when ever they want. That day people walked across, bringing the wall down with them. Since the Berlin Wall was once of the Cold War's strongest structures, it was a sign of hope that the war was coming to its end. -
Russia is born
The Soviet Union is dissolved into 15 post Soviet states. This would mark the end of Communism for this world power. The country would become Russia and its goverment would be a federation and a semi-presidential republic. The Cold War had finally came to an end.
