U2 spy plane shot down
An us spyplane was flying over the Soviet Union by a land to air Missle. The pilot Gary Powers was captured by the Soviet Union and put him on trial as a spy. At first the US denide spying on the Soviet Union but later fessed up and traded Gary for a Soviet spy.

Berlin Wall goes up
During the night Soviet troop buitl a barbed wire fence seperating Communist east Berlin and Democratic west Berlin and kept makeing tit more forified which eventually ran the Soviet union dry. It was a literal symbole of the Iron curtain of communism. The wall stood till October of 1989.
