    The vietminh wanted to unite the country under communist leader Ho Chi Minh. Many of the South vietnamese people, they were unhappy with that by Ngo Dimh Diem. With all of these, Vietnam was divided into two sides.

    This war started after the Indochina war, (1946-1954) when in 1954 vietnam was divided into two sides (Northern Vietnam and Southern Vietnam)
