Iron Curtain Speech
Winston Churchill delivers the speech in the the United States. He is concerned about Soviet aggression in Eastern Europe. The Iron Curtain is the division between Capitalism Western Europe and Communist Eastern Europe. He wanted America to take a bigger role in Soviet aggression. -
Truman Doctrine
Truman feared the spread of communism. He then made a policy called the “Truman Doctrine” which the U.S would give aid to any country threatened by communism. This policy would give the USA trading partners. -
Marshall Plan
George Marshall the Secretary of State offered a plan called “Marshall Plan” that gave all European nations funding to rebuild their economies but only if they money was spent on good things made in the United States. -
Berlin Airlift
The U.S and British planes flew and flooded supplies into Western Berlin after the Soviet’s blockaded Berlin city. -
Berlin Blockade
The Soviet Union created the Berlin Blockade to force western allies out of Berlin by closing all roadand rail connections to Berlin from West Germany which were France, Great Britain and The United States. -
NATO
The United Stated and 12 other countries created NATO to protect western countries from the Soviet Union from attacking. -
Communists Take Over China
Mao Zedong and his communist defeated the national government. Chiang failed to win the chinese people who were fed up with the war and government corruption. Chiang fled with his followers to Taiwan, Mao Zedong then became the ruler of Mainland China he then introduced communism to China. -
Korean War
The communist of North Korea invaded South Korea and took over Seoul, South’s capital. North Korea and South Korea then became seperated. -
Vietnam War
Vietnam declares independence from France North and South Vietnam then becomes divided. North Vietnam wanted to be united into a country again under the leader Ho Chi Minh many people from the South followed him because they were unhappy with the North leader which then a war started between both sides. -
Revolt in Hungary
Hungarians wanted an to Soviet control because they wanted more political freedom, economic improvement. They expected to gain their freedom after Stalin died but they didn’t receive it and so they started a protest. -
Sputnik
The Soviet Union launched the Sputnik it was the first satellite to orbit the earth. The United States feared that Soviets were ahead in space exploration and military missiles so they increased defense and began to move faster on America’s Space Progam. -
The Great Leap Foward
Mao’s second five year plan to industrialize China. He wanted to produce a large amount of grain and steel he believed if he did it would solved China’s Economic problems. It failed and more than 30,000 million starved to death and he blamed everyone and never admitted he did wrong. -
Apollo Program
John F. Kennedy gave out the plan to put a man on the moon and return him safely during a speech. Which led them to making the Apollo Program a series of space flights to get American Astronauts on the moon. -
Cuban Missle Crisis
The Soviet Union helped Cuba become communist by giving them nuclear weapons. The USA became worried about having them close because if they launched a missle the U.S would only have about 20 mins to react before it hit the United States. The Cuban missile crises ended on the 28th of October when the Soviet Union agreed to removed the missiles in Cuba if the U.S agreed to remove their missiles from Turkey. -
Cultural Revolution
Mao Zeodong and the Red Guards began a political movement that lasted from 1966 to 1976. A campaign was brought in by Mao to clear out the communists of his opponents. He wanted to cleanse China of revisionists in order to assert his authority over the Chinese Government. -
Revolt in Czechoslovakia
The Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia to crush the Prague Spring.
