Between the Soviet Union and the US. The Soviet Union launched Sputnik into Earth's atmosphere. The race peaked on July 20, 1969, with the US landing on the moon with Apollo 11. -

Sputnik was the world's first artificial satellite. The Soviet Union launched it on October 4, 1957. The US responded by sending a man to the moon. -

American Col. Francis Gary Powers' spy plane was shot down. The purpose of the plane going out was to spy deep in Russia. The plane was shot down over Soviet airspace. -
The Berlin Wall
The wall was constructed by the German Democratic Republic. The building started on August 13, 1961. The Wall was to prevent emigration into Berlin. -
Cuban Misslie Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a direct conflict between the US and the Soviet Union. Both countries were threatening nuclear war on each other. This was the closest that two countries came to nuclear conflict.
