Paris Conference
The Paris Peace Conference was the meeting of the Allied victors following the end of World War I to set the peace terms for the defeated Central Powers following the armistices of 1918. It took place in Paris in 1919 and involved diplomats from more than 32 countries and nationalities. They met to discuss different treatys. -

The launch of Sputnik caused great amounts of conflicts between the United States and USSR. Both countries didnt want to be outshown or outdated. They both wanted to be in the lead with the technology in space. It was launched on October 4 1959 by the USSR. -

The Berlin Wall was a barrier built by German Democratic Republic. The was completely cut off West Berlin from the surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin. The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls,and a wide area later know as the death strip. it was built during post WWII. -
Khrushchev & Kennedy indulge in brinkmanship
Kennedy wanted Kruschev to take out the nuclear weapongs he put in Cuba. But Krushchev wanted to have Kennedy take out the nuclear weapons the US had in Turkey. So the brinkmanship (which means to take from, restrict) was they wanted the nuclear weapons out of the countries that were close to them. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis occured in October 1962. Russia put nuclear weapons in Cuba, which is ony 90 miles away from The United States. At first they tried to make sure that they were really nuclear weapons, when a U2 spyplane got shot down in the procces. United States took this as a threat. -
Hotline established (between USSR & USA)
THis hotline was established so that it would be faster for the USSR and the USA to talk, it would be easier if there was an emergency then to write a letter or fly there to talk now they can just pick up the phone and if will call one another directlly. -

On August 5, 1963 The United States, Soviet Union and Great Britian signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. The nuclear test ban treaty was a treaty that prohibited the testing of nuclear weapons in outer space, underwater or in the atmosphere. The treaty was important for control of nuclear weapons. -

The Communist party in Czecholslovakia in 1968 replaced Novotny as Party Leader with Alexander Dubcek. They didn't want anything to do with socialism. Dubcek wanted to get along with all countries no matter what political views they had.
