Cold War - Defined by how there was not really any fights between America and the Soviet Union, Leading it to remain "cold"

  • Chinese Communist Revolution

    The Chinese Revolution allowed the Chinese Republic to claim power and become the world's 2nd communist country. Mao Zedong leads the republic to take over China, killing millions during and after the revolution. After the war, the Chinese government fled to Taiwan and still claimed power, however not many countries deem it legitimate
  • Formation of the Eastern Bloc

    The formation of the Eastern Bloc occurred after Russia marched through Eastern Europe up until Germany. Multiple countries became Russian puppet states and bolstered the Soviet Union's power. While these countries were their own countries, they were directly under the rule of the Soviet Union (Russia)
  • Postwar Occupation and Division of Germany

    After WW2, Germany was split between the Big 3(and France) creating a split Germany. This created a rather odd scenario where Berlin was also split in Soviet borders, allowing capitalism to be in communist territory. while Germany was split, later Germany would be allowed to gain independence after the Cold War
  • Enactment of the Marshall Plan

    The Marshall Plan was a program to lend aid to Western Europe. It provided over 14 Billion dollars to countries affected by WW2, creating the idea that capitalism was better than communism. The prosperous West showed the world how communism was an inferior economic policy
  • Berlin Blockade and Airlift

    The Berlin Blockade and airlift was Russias attempt to keep America out of its part of berlin. Russia created a blockade to stop trade and supplies coming in, however America flew in supplies to the people. This would be a major reason as to why the Berlin wall was created as it gave the Soviets a great reason to make it.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War started with North Korea invading South Korea in order to take over all of Korea. South Korea eventually gained America's aid, which pushed the North Koreans all the way back to China. China in response joined the war and pushed The Southern Koran-American army back to the original border, causing a somewhat pointless war
  • Cuban Revolution

    The Cuban Revolution was an attempt to overthrow the unpopular Cuban government. Fidel Castro leads his ideal communist party to lead Cuba, and turns Cuba into a communist country. This creates a communist country right next to American territory allowing for the Soviet Union to have an ally near America
  • Overthrow of the Mosaddegh Government

    Mossaddegh was the leader of Iran up until 1953 as he was very unpopular with the people. With the help of the military, he was ousted from office and The Shah took power rather quickly. This lead to America obtaining over 40% of Iran's Oil fields which bolstered their army and businesses.
  • Vietnam War

    The Vietnam war original started as 2 political parties fighting over control of Vietnam. Americans involved themselves in order to stop the Communist party from seizing control. However, The terrain and tactics of the Vietnamese led to America being unable to capture and defeat all the Vietnamese.
  • Overthrow of the Guatemalan Government

    The overthrow of the Guatemalan government was a plot by the CIA to dispose of the Guatemalan leader. This allowed for a dictator of the name of Carlos to take power and become the soul leader of Guatemala. This coup backfired as more bloodshed came from this attempt of a overthrow
  • Building of the Berlin Wall

    The Berlin wall was created in order to keep east Berliners inside east Berlin. When the wall was constructed, anybody attempting to cross was shot and killed on the spot, separating the West and East. This lead the America saying that it never had to build a wall to keep its people in, making the Soviet Union looking awful
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The Bay of Pigs Invasion was Americas attempt to get rid of Fidel Castro. America used exiled Cubans to stage an invasion, however, didn't want Americas involvement to be seen. This led to it being a failure and a waste of time, but creating cubas hate for America even stronger
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuba and Russia became allies, which allowed Cuba to obtain nuclear missiles. America frightened, created a blockade which angered the Soviet Union. This snowballed into almost nuclear war, until America agreed to take its missiles out of turkey in return of cuba having no missiles
  • Rise of the Palestine Liberation Organization

    The Palestine Liberation Organization took power in order to create a united arab state in their own views. They looked for the elimination of the israel state and it's people. While never truly creating their dreams, they cause mass genocide and destroyed many lives
  • Overthrow of the Allende Government

    The government of Salvador was overthrown by Augusto Pinochet. In a coup d'etat, President Allende formed an armed resistance but failed. This lead to an authoritarian dictatorship to take the old government's place.
  • Soviet War in Afghanistan

    The Soviets were under terrorist attack from an Afghani terror group, similar to Isis. After multiple attacks, the Soviet Union attacked Afghanistan in response to all this violence. Even after the war was halted, In 2000, Putin resumed the war.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, after Gorbachev let in reforms and the people kept asking for more. This led to masses of people getting through the wall and tearing it down. While many people didn't return back to East berlin, some only travelled for the expireence
  • Tiananmen Square Massacre

    The Tiananmen Square Massacre was the communist government of China's response to the people resisting their rule. Many Chinese gathered to protest against their new leaders as they where not very popular. However the government used their army to kill thousands of protesters who defied them.
  • Fall of the Soviet Union

    The Soviet Union disbanded in 1991 due to each country wanting to be their own independent nation. The Soviet Union lost its power after spending way too much on its military, leading it unable to support the Union as a whole. This lead to 15 independant nations forming
  • 9/11 Attacks

    The 9/11 attacks where several airplane crashes into notable U.S Buildings. The terorist group behind these attacks, Isis, planned to destroy the twin towers, the pentagon, and (theorized to be) the white house. 3 of the 4 planes where successful in crashing into their targets, killing over 2 thousand people and destroying the twin towers
