Berlin Airlift
The Soviet Union sealed off all railroads and highway into the Western sectors of the city. The western powers responeded to the blockade by mounting a round-the-clock airlift. For more than a year, planes supplied West Berliners with food and fuel. -
NATO Pact
The North Alantic Treaty Organization was a military alliance bewtween several North Alantic States to protect them from the threat of the Soviet Union's communist. Countries from other regions later joined the alliance. -
Warsaw Pact
In 1955, the Soviet Union responded by forming it's own military alliance, the Warsaw Pact. It included the Soviet Union and seven satelites in Eastern Europe.
