Soviet Union Tests first Atomic Bomb
The Soviet Union tested their first Atomic Bomb and they are now the second country to do this along with America. America became scared because now there was a threat against them. America couldn't drop a bomb on Russia without going into a nuclear war. -
Comecon- Warsaw Pact
An alliance between the Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria.The Soviets would have control of all of the members' militaries. Every member's military would have to aid a member country if they were under attack. This was in response to the United States' treaty with other countries (NATO). The Warsaw Pact ended in 1991. -
Nixon signs agreement to withdraw troops from Vietnam
Nixon withdraws troops from Vietnam trying to end the Vietnam war. He threatens to bomb North Vietnam if the war isn't ended. The troops were located in South Vietnam fighting against North Vietnam.
