It was a civil war fought by the Democratic and the Greek army. The Democratic wanted to go into Communism, and were supported by the Soviet, while the Greek Army didn't want to. They were supported by the United States -

A policy from the United States that they used to prevent the spread of Communism. It was brought on as a response to the Soviet Union that wanted to spread communism like they did in East of Europe, China, Korea, Africa, and Vietnam. -
Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrate was a policy that presidwent Harry Truman signed. It stated that in order for Greece and Turkey to avoid joining the Communist, the United States would support them with military and financial aid. -

The Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, with Soviet backing, take over Czechoslovakia. Leading up to four decades of a dictator government. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan is also known as the European Recovery Program. The Marshall Plan was an American program that would help Europe with economy support. It was another plan to avoid the European countries from joining Communism. -
Apartheid
Apartheid means "the status of being apart". It was a racial segregation that was enforced by the National Party Governments that ruled from 1948 to 1994. The blacks were treated as if the Whites had seniority. It ended in 1990 -
Berlin Blockade
Known as the first international crisis of the Cold War. It was a huge wall that seperated the Western and Easterm side of Berlin. The East side was communist while the West side was not. -

Stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. It is used to defend themselves if threatened or attacked. -
*Soviet Explodes Atomic Bomb
The Soviet Union creates their own Atomic bomb after having a spy plane fly over the detonation of the first bomb tested by the United States. -
Korean War
A war between North and South Korea. It was a conflict between the Soviets and the United Nations. The Soviets supported the North while the United Nations supported the South. -

The Committee for State Security was the main security agency for the Soviet Union. It was the chief government agency of "union-republican jurisdiction", acting as internal security, intelligence, and secret police. -

Happened in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. They fought against the North and South Korea. The result ended up with North Korea winning on April 30, 1975 -

It was a threat against the Soviet Union and it's communism. It wasn't successful, but was very inspiring to other countries. Later on helping with the fall of the Soviet Union. -

Was the first artificial satellite to successfully orbit Earth. The Soviet Union launched it. -

It was a five year plan in an attempt to modernize China's economy to beat America's. It was created by Mao. -
*Rosenburg Execution
Ethel Greenglass Rosenberg and Julius Rosenbergwere United States citizens convicted of conspiracy to betray the country during a time of war, and executed. Theiy were charged with the passing of information about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. -
*Khrushchev barred from visiting Disneyland
Nikita Khrushchev went to the United States for a meeting with President Eisenhower. While he was staying there, he decided to go to Los Angeles and be a tourist. He got angry finding out he wasn't allowed to go to Disneyland due to public saftey. -
*U-2 Incident
A United States U-2 spy plane was shot down over the airspace of the Soviet Union, causing a "blow of cover" for the United States, because they had to say why the plane was there in the first place. -
OPEC
Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries. It is an oil cartel that coordinates the policies of the oil producing companies. It's goal was to secure the income and make sure there were a good amount of supply for the people. -
Bay of Pigs
The Bay of Pigs Invasion was when the United States did an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Which ended up them hating each other not never allowing them to trade with each other again. -
Tet Offensive
A military campaign launched by the Viet Cong and North Vietnam to use against South Vietnam. They attacked the command and communication centers of South Korea by surprise. In the end it didn't work because the North ended up with a tactial victory with the help of the United States -
Watergate Scandal
The Watergate scandal was a political scandal which was a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate office in Washington, D.C. The staff of Nixon tried to cover it up. It ended up in Nixon to resigning his position as the President. -
Munich Massacre
An attack during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. 11 members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and killed with a German police officer. They were attacked by the Palestinian group named Black September. They did it for ransom in release of Israeli prisoners and some founders the of the Red German Fraction -
Camp David Accords
Two agreements between Israel and Egypt. The first between Israel and its Arab neighbours. The Camp David Accords was made by the Israeli prime minister Menachem Begin and the Egyptian president Anwar Sadat. Along with the US president, Jimmy Carter. -

The original Walkman changed the way people could hear to their favorite music because it allowed people to carry music with them (in cassette form) and listen to it through headphones. -
Iran Hostage Crisis
It was a diplomatic crisis between Iran and the United States. Because 52 Americans were held hostage for 444 days after a group of Islamist students and militants who supported the Iranian Revolution took over the American Embassy in Tehran. -
Ruhollah Khomeini
An Iranian religious leader and politician, and leader of the 1979 Iranian Revolution who were present when the overthrow of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi happened. He became the country's Supreme Leader until he died. -

The Iran–Iraq War began when Iraq invaded Iran by doing simultaneous invasions by air and land on 22 September 1980. Iraq was in fear that Iran wanted to overthrow their government and replace it with theirs. -

A nuclear accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine which was under the supervision of the authorities of the Soviet Union. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive particles, causing damages and spreading to the western USSR and Europe. -

A huge student-led protest in Beijing where they demanded social equality. THey wated freedom of press, speech, socialism, and democracy. The result ended in a few changes but not very successful. -

An agreement signed by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. It allowed the countries to be able to trade good with each other. -

Four terroist attacks led by an Islamic group named al-Qaeda. They attack the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and attempted the United States Captiol, but failed.
