The first wearable eye glasses were invented around 1284 by Salvino D'Armate. -
Sunglasses are invented
James Ayscough invented sunglasses with double-hinged side pieces. The lenses were made of tinted glass as well as clear. Ayscough felt that white glass created a glaring light, that was bad to the eyes. He advised the use of green and blue glasses. Ayscough's glasses were the first sunglass like eyeglasses. -
Polarized Sunglasses are invented
Edwin Land invented a polarizing filter. It was the first modern filter to polarize light. Polarizing celluloid was a critical factor in creating polarizing sunglass lenses that reduces light glare. -
