College Drop Out
Bob dropped out of Amherst College in Massechuetts becuase of financial problems. -
Field Study 1910-1911
Bob worked with entomologist Dr. Willard Von Orsdel. He helped to find how Rockey Mountain Fever is transmitted. -
More Field Studies 1912-1915
Bob worked on more field studies on the Western side of the US. -
Moves to Labrador Canada
Bob moves to Labrador to conduct a field study with the Inuits. This is where he develpoed an interset in frozen food. -
Clothel Refrigerating Company
Bob conducts fish freezing studies at the Clothel Refridgerating Company. -
Starts Birdseye Seafood INC
He started his own company soon after working at Clothel. -
Bankruptcy
Bob files for bankruptcy because of the lack in consumer interset. -
New Process
Bob creates a new process for freezing fish. He starts the General Seafood Company. -
Company Move
Bob moves the headquarters to Gloucester, Massachusetts. -
Company expands from Seafood
Bob started to freeze other foods like vegetables, other meats, and fruits. -
Company is Sold
Bob sold the company to Goldman Sachs and Postum for $22 million. -
Birdseye becomes an advisor
1930 - 1956 Bob works for Post as an advisor to the Birds Eye frozen food division. -
Death
Clarence (Bob) dies of a heart attack at 69. At his death, he held over 300 patents, many of them food-related, such as display cases for grocery store freezers, a process for safely dehydrating foods, and a refrigerated boxcar for shipping. He is also credited for finding out how the Rocky Mountaion Fever is transmitted. -
