Brown V. Board of education
Before this time the Plessy vs. fergusun decision was still in action. Plessy vs. Fergusun allowed state regulated segregartion. Before 1954 "seperate was pretty widely accepted. But Brwon v. Board ruled that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal." -
Montgomery Bus boycott
The bus boycott in Montgomery alabama was a protest that lasted over a year. African americans would sometimes get arrested or worse if they didn't move to the back of the bus for a white person. eventually it came to the point where blacks refused to ride the bus and eventually driving the United States Supreme court to desegregate the bus system. -
Little Rock nine incident
In 1954 Brown vs. board passed and schools were in the process of desegregating. At little rock central high school both teachers and students were against this idea. The school actually called the national guard, The nine students admitted to the school have to be under the protecton of military officers at almost all times. And everntually the school had to shut down, rather than desegregate. -
Birmingham Campaign
Martin Luther King, jr. and the SLCC organized sit-ins to end segregation in public places such as resturants and stores, the sit-ins were meant to be non-violent. It was during Birmingham when King was arrested and wrote "A letter from Birmingham Jail." -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
The civil rights act of 1964 was put into action to stop discrimination of anyone, regardless of race, religion, or gender. This piece of legislation is an important part of how America came to be where it is today.
