    South won this year because of their valor and spirit they obtained from their first months in the war. The picked up immense speed and went against all odds to beat the north.

    The south receded from the union, this helped the south protect their way of life and gave them the ability to fight on their land, since the north will come south to regain control of the southerners.

    The south decided to create a government after leaving the union, this gives them more possibility for leadership, it gives them more organization and it could make them into a stable community isolated if they won the war.

    President Buchanan refused to surrender federal forts to the south, the south took them, this gives the south a big advantage taking supplies away from the north and getting them for themselves.

    The first shots of the civil war were fired here. South Carolina took over fort sumter in the outcome of this battle.

After the first day the Union troops were almost destroyed until reinforcements came. North then took control of the battle and fighting off the remaining Butternuts off the land.

    After Bragg attempted to drive burnside out of tennessee, burnside looked for refuge in knoxville. He successfully defended from confederate attacks there.

    The North has now created a snowball too large for the south can handle, Lee can no longer win battles, only do more damage than grant does in a futile effort to keep up in numbers, the north has too much power to be defeated now.

    Grant still wanting to attack lee, fought in spotsylvania for 5 days. during this battle, fire broke out, burning many soldiers who were either wounded or dead.

    Most of this battle was fought for the southerners with the ironclad Tennessee doing more damage than the ship recieved. Although the Tennessee's fighting spirit could not die, the north simply had too many people. The Tennessee then surrendered as you can locate in this picture.

    Picture CreditSherman, now marching through atlanta and toward the sea, is now living off the land. In georgia a path 300 miles long and 60 miles wide was cut by shermans men, a path, of complete desolation and destruction.

    In 1865 The north has a death grip on the war, they continue to beat the south and they have no way of escaping, The amount of industry, land, and population of the north is its greatest strength at this time.
