  • The Spencer Rifle

The spencer rifle was the ordinary rifle used by union soldiers. The rifle was used from 1860 through 1869. The carbine version was used more frequentely due to the easy and quick reload, it being shorter, and lighter. Soldiers could fire roughly 20 rounds a minue which was a lot back then! The rifle did have some cons though, one of them being the massive cloud of smoke left behind after being fired. Imagine what it looked like with hundreds of soldiers firing it at the same time!

  • The Springfield Model 1861

The Springfield Model was the standard weapon for union soldiers. It was used from 1861 to 1865. It weighed a mere 7 pounds. Shockingly, during those 4 years about 700,000 were made! This particular weapon was definetely not the best weapon but it was the most available so this is what they had to settle for. Compared to the Spencer Rifle this weapon didn't use near as much ammo which was a total plus.
  • The Ketchum Grenade
