Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
this law was passed to ensure that escaped slaves would be returned to their "owners". The northerners that opposed slavery were no faced with the conflict of morality vs law. They could either continue helping the runaway slaves, because it was the right thing to do for, and get in trouble or fallow a law they they thought was wrong. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote the anti-slave book; Uncle Tom's Cabin. it provoked a sense of disgust to those who viewed slavery as a wrong because story presented a description of the conditions a slave lived through. Making their stance of anti-slavery even stronger and therefore dividing the country even more. -

Bleeding Kansas was a series of violent confrontations between anti and pro slavery supporters. Their main goal was to get the territory of Kansas to become a state of their favor and in the process killing their own fellow American man. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
The Kansas-Nebraska Act gave the Territories of Kansas and Nebraska the right to decide with popular soverty if whether they were to become a slave or free state. This resulted in both Anti and Pro slavery activist to intervene in the out come, either by moving to the Territories and voting their way or bribing others to do so as well. As a result the bleeding Kansas happened since people started to use violence to affect the Territories stance of slavery. -
South Carolinas's Succession
The country was divided and South Carolina declared succession from the union causing other states to succeed for the same cause. Slavery. This not only cause a division of society, but it created a border where the division was.
